What would be the take home pay?

Ok Tax master tell me how it works please, in dummies kinda terms as I find tax etc very confusing.

How do they mean by offset?

In the broadest possible quarter-to-one-in-the-morning terms, you can take a deduction from your income for costs incurred in carrying out your work.

Based on a ~£35k pa wage? Wow.

Wut! £673 a week for 1st/2nd line support.

That's short term contracts for you, generally higher wages to go with the fact it's not for long. And the fact there's no holiday pay, pensions, sick pay, job security etc :p

£13-£15 is about what I'm used to seeing 1st/2nd line desktop contractors get, with server based support coming in from say £25 up.

Some umbrella companies reckon they get you 80% of your take home, plus with the stuff you do claim back it can work out quite nice.

I'm tempted to give it a go again once my redundancy stuff gets sorted (which won't be for ages yet), been offered some nice contracts in London but not willing to give up my perm role for one just yet ;)
