So i'm thinking of upgrading to Sky HD, what i was wondering is, Do i get to keep and would i still be able to watch the recordings on my old Sky+ box, as i have some good stuff on there i'd like to watch again. Or do sky take the box off me.

Watch your stuff before you change. I recently wet from Sky+ to Sky HD and multi-room using old box. I couldn't view any programme I had previously recorded and lost everything. I phoned Sky and they could do nothing about it!

Thank god for repeats!!!

The only way to watch previously recorded programs on your Sky+ would be to connect the Sky plus up to the dish, take the viewing card from the HD and put it in the Sky+ and then watch the programs back. Or you could use a software app called Copy+ (Google it) but you'd need to crack open both boxes, put the hard Drives into your PC and copy the Sky+ stuff onto the +HD Hard Drive and then put the Sky+HD Drive back in and the programs would be there.

Gotta say i dont think its worth it. if you are going hd, buy a 2nd hand sky hd box and watch the free HD channels.

Also remember you can still Record HD stuff from HD channels you dont subscribe to. Then i guess when you have enough stuff recorded just subscribe to the HD channels for 1 month to watch em.

Theres free HD channels?

Can you use your existing viewing car in a Sky HD box then?

BBC HD, BBC1 HD (when it launches this year), ITV1HD, Luxe.TV, Channel4HD and FiveHD are all free-to-air/free-to-view.

If you are subscribed to Sky already, then you can buy a SkyHD box and then use your existing card with it. However, you have to call Sky and get them to pair your card with the new box.

Top stuff :)

Saying that, sky are doing free HD boxs, could just get one of them with the years subscription (£120), as they arnt cheap on auction site

If your EPG is running slowly I'd suggest a Planner rebuild which won't delete your programs.

Services, 0, 0-1-select, choose rebuild and press select twice (but NOT while you're recording!)

if you think the older EPG is better, go and use it for a while. you'll relaise how many features of the new HD guide you get used to and how very limiting the old one is. New EPG is MILES, nay LIGHT YEARS better.

While you can pay Sky up front the £120 will be used for your standard bill, not exclusively for the HD.

Is there a way i can get back the old EPG then?

Its not just the slowness i don't like it just seems to be the whole thing. I think the only thing i quite like is that it groups programs that you've recorded

The only way you can downgrade the TV Guide is if that firmware is put into the firmware datastream from the satellite, can remember a couple of times this happened due to firmware issues noticed after release of a new firmware, so cant see it happening for the new guide as its been around an age. Planner rebuild like Misschief said or a full system reset is more effective but you loose all your recordings and anytime stuff thats built up.May up the speed of your planner but to be honest probably wont see much of an increase.
