Really? so when you see a 'Ka' I assume you think idiot?, when you see a twingo, again, you must also think 'idiot', in fact so many cars on the road must have you thinking 'idiot'..

I see an i10, and I think, "Not my bag, it looks really girly, it's only just passable inside, but if it floats their boat, so be it".. I really find it highly irrational to summon up feelings of idiocy when looking at other people's cars..

Anyway, as for my GF, she wanted to spend about £7k on a city car, getting a loan. Instead, I persuaded her that have another Mondeo despite her previous one (an S reg Ghia being fit for scrap and not worth repairing) being a turd on wheels so she found a newer Mk3 Mondeo at a stealer for £2500, in effect, she paid him £2k plus her sheddy mondeo which I thought an awful deal but a very nice car.

It was her money, her descision her choice but I still thought her wrong. that said, a lot better than a £7k finance deal, the lesser of two evils.

You chose to do the opposite and post about it on OC.UK motors.

I had similar decisions to make, but went the other way... maybe the wrong choice, who knows, but I had promised wifey a new car so got as close as I could within reason without breaking the bank.

I knew this thread would go like this, but this is what makes ocuk motors fun :)

I wonder if there is a Busa conversion for them ;)

And what people are expressing is that is one hell of an expensive way to peform such simple and mundane tasks. Plus you pointed out earlier how much you have saved by not buying in cash has allowed you to buy all manner of nice holidays and other more important things in life.

When in fact getting a cheeky loan for say £5k and buying a cheeky car to do all these mundane tasks and having plenty of money left over to all these wonderful things would have been perfect. But it seems, simple to drive (wtf does that even mean), low servicing, 'insert generic studpid reasoning points' have swung your decision to spend £9.5k on something that isn't even new

I can't speak for him but I don't think he meant badge snobbery or how stupid people are for driving around in that. It is more to do with how they probably got rid of a perfectly good car and are paying for some silly finance deal because the government scrappage and dealers told them this amazing 10 plate hyundai/toyota/whirlpool is stunning value, when it isn't.

Get this through your thick skull, THE BADGE ISN'T THE PROBLEM, NOR IS IT THE CAR ITSELF. It is all down to the utterly garbage finance deal and the fact he is paying MORE than the cost of a new one, for an old one.

Yes, no-one actually likes the i10, but that is besides the point.

Thanks... it's £4 more, done 2500 more miles, was it within 20miles of Christchurch also ?

The price was fine, the finance was just that, finance (pays for things long term at a price). If I'm happy with that price then is it such a bad deal ?
 
All jokes aside, you wanted a cheap little run about, 2k would have done the job with no debt.

It is up to you, and if your wifes happy, your happy, i understand that.

But this was a shocking deal, take a breath and ask someone you trust, not on here, see if they agree.

I'm still waiting for you to go into depth on quality of plastics and how Hyundai plastics differ from BMW plastics in processes used, both in manufacturing techniques and sourcing of master batch etc.

edit: it's not more than a financed new one (the figures I was looking at)... as that would be more than a new one by quite some amount

Well lets put it this way, I doubt Hyundai have just invested $100M on developing their plastic manufacturing by researching into developing CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastics) techniques.

Infact, I doubt that Hyundai have spent that in total on R&D for their entire range of platforms.

But you keep telling yourself that its built well, and not in any way built cheaply and down to the price point of the lowest bidder.

It may be shocking to some, but these are hardly large sums of cash we're talking about... don't regret the purchase, and no-one has yet changed my mind.

If £9,500 isn't a large amount of cash to you, why were you so obsessed with saving £100 a year on tax, maybe £100 a year on fuel (by your own admission it will do zero milage, so MPG is irrelevant), and to keep monthly payments down?

All cars are built to a price point, relative to the market they are designed for...the i10 is built to extreme budgets to get a new car under 10k OTR.

If I wanted BMW quality plastics I would have bought a BMW, but strangely enough this was not important to me.

You keep telling yourself you have superior plastics, and that i10 drivers as you say are 'idiots'... if it makes you feel better than others.

You sound more silly than me tbh, and that takes some doing.


Please feel free to quote exact r&D budgets of Hyundai, but I think you'll be surprised how much cars cost to develop.

No it's not much money, but I also don't mind small monthly outgoings.... I prefer to work my finances this way.
 
Disregarding everything else for a moment, I had a mental image of the i10 in my head and thought "no way it can't be" so Google Image Searched it and it was the image I had in my mind :(

Why such an ugly car dude! Why would a biker bloke want to be seen in one of them even!
