Yes its another one of these threads :P - GTX 470 or 5870?

GTX 470 has arrived and im more than happy with it! Seeing about a 30% increase over my GTX 280.

Some things kind of amazed me tho, its been well documented that it is noisy and also a huge card. Well its both quieter and smaller than my 280, WTF are the reviewers on about?

Thanks OcUK :D

Them reviews are bogus, they stress the card with furmark and push the temps and fan to extremes that under normal conditions would never happen.

Get some OCing on it :P should see way more than 30% increase :D I like the size of the 470 - big enough to feel substantial like you got your money worth - small enough to fit with space to spare between the HDD cage in all but the smallest case.

They are quiet until the fan ramps up :D in normal gaming especially if you use vsync tho they actually are whisper quiet. On more demanding applications tho they will get very noisey.

Mess about with Afterburner and yeah at 100% fanspeed this thing is like a hoover but come on real world usage this will never happen. Got her up to 750MHz so far, still pretty stable :)

My 5850's fan sounds like a jet at 100%, fortunately it doesn't have to go above 50% even in Furmark :)

Ahh ok, which games are these. Can you give me a llink ?

Just use common sense and stop being a smart ass. Newer and more advanced games push graphics cards harder, creating more heat and causing the fan to spin more. Same happened to my 4870X2, the main reason I got rid of it. Otherwise, why upgrade your graphics card if newer games dont do that ;)

Define " newer games " pacman 2010? You won't find more intensive games like crysis and metro 2033 and they stress the GPU nowhere near what furmark does.

OK, games like Metro 2034 and whatever else comes out. Actually, Starcraft 2 (the menu :p) and Star Trek/Champions Online (poor coding) stress a GPU more than Crysis (not sure about Metro). And before another smart ass asks for a link - that is personal experience and a well-considered fact in the community.

Smart Arse, I see

I think you are talking drivel if we are getting personal. I like how you back your statement, It is a well known fact in the community.
