PS3 80GB phat model and FFX

I just noticed he's from Canada. There is an 80gb NTSC version of the PS3 that has partial PS2 backwards compatibility. but it depends on the model type

CECHExx has it, All other 80gb models do not

If it's an english PS3, None of the 80gb PAL models have it

No, I'm not from Canada, only here for 6 months :).

I have an English 80gb Pal model.

Damn that's a shame, you buy the most expensive model at the time and it screws you over. lol I haven't even filled 10% of my PS3 I think. Those 20gbs are really biting me in the arse now.

I guess we're not allowed to discuss emulators here?

Oh actually, I think my baby sister has my old PS2 anyway, I'll just get it off her lol, I might even have the game somewhere.

Best playing the game on actual PS2 anyway. I have the original PS3 60Gb and noticed a few glitches playing FFX so I went back to playing it on my PS2.

Backwards compatible played games are always glitchy, always best to play on the console it was designed for :)
PS1 on a PS2 is alright on a small TV. I haven't seen PS2 on a PS3 yet but PS1 on a PS3 is abismal -_-

It depends on the game but I've found the quality of PS2 games upscaled through the PS3 to be great - MGS2 is fantastic in fact. Agree with you in the case of the PS1 though. (but it doesn't stop me buying and playing them from the Store still! :D)

Very good site with a lot of info about PS3, I was surprised to see that the launch PS3 in Europe has software PS3 support and not hardware support as I thought.

Part software and part hardware. The Cell emulated the CPU in the PS2 while a physical GPU from the PS2 was built into the 60GB PS3. All that's needed is a way of emulating the GPU and hey presto you have PS2 backward compatibility for all PS3s, can't see it happening though sadly.
