I used to love games like myth of soma, and legend of mir! The type where the camera is up abovethe player at an angle(like titan quest). New mmorpgs just seem SO complicated, boring and FULL of bugs.
Any one else feel the same?

P.s it was also great that soma had its own tv program on Game-network... *drools* and betina was on before the show :D any one else remeber that...or is it just me :)

The thing that annoys me most about mmo's these days is firstly the lack of sandbox type games, and where someone does do a decent sandbox title, they seem obliged to include full, unrestricted PvP, because of a small but very vocal pro PvP community.

This drives me nuts :p

Hehe I used to play Mir. I actually popped on to Mir 3 yesterday to see how things were going, looks like a pretty fun server now people are reaching level 80. I quit over a year ago though. I played Mir 2 to death though when I was 11 and nearly 12 years later now I wish I was going on guild hunts to st 7th again. Good times :)

I don't mind PvP as such, I'm playing Warhammer obsessively at the moment. It's having it imposed on me when I don't want it that bugs me. It was fun in Eve and UO when I had nothing else to do all day except play the game and be able to compete. Now I just want to enjoy myself for an hour or two without some teen no-life ruining my fun.

Edit - isn't the Torchlight mmo going to be isometric?

I rememer there was a Legend of Mir show on Game Network, where some poor bloke had to try and make the game look interesting for TV. I remember he really struggled to string two words together, poor sod, he was obviously just a gamer shoved in front of a camera and told to fill for half an hour.

What are you talking about old skool, aint wow one, infact its more old skool tham eq 1 and harder even to this day.

I wanted to have ago at my first troll post, was it any good?:D

I wanted to kill you for a second, so yes... ;)

Could anyone briefly summarise how the UO style of MMO differs to EQ and its derivatives?

Depends on who you ask to be honest. A UO player will probably say it is all about creating a world compared to playing someone elses story while an EQ player would say it was about actually having content rather than making it up yourself. :)

UO was more open world, more sandbox style, while EQ was more what is termed as "Themepark" so you are in a much more superficial world and much more structured gameplay. However, I personally found the themepark games (of which WoW is one, it is effectively EQ at its heart with Blizzards polish and keen eye for systems) to be more enjoyable to play while the sandbox games (UO, SWG, Eve and Fallen Earth to some extent) to be incredibly dull.

Neither playstyle is correct, however the "themepark" playstyle is more common and more financially viable.
