Aint it a shame..

Is it allowed on the Xbox, officially? I assume you can play the game however you want as long as you aren't cheating/exploiting/etc...?

It's not a licensed peripheral, and the consensus is that it's cheating due to the massive advantage it gives over pad players.

However, due to the way that they're designed they're impossible to detect/ban from a technical stance.

For me the pc will always be the first choice gaming machine but thats not to say consoles dont have a place, like the lad above me says they do produce some great games now and again. Personaly i have my pc for the games that come out multi plat or exclusive and the ps3 for everything else, games like uncharted, demon souls mgs4 etc.

The way I see it - who cares what we all game on as long it makes us happy!

I can see both sides of the argument. Im a total PC gamer but I can also totally understand the console point-of-view. Some people just arent nerds like us PC lot who like tweaking and putting up with long installs, optimizing etc. Get disc, load it. Play it. Sometimes I do envy the consolers, its such a KISS thing (Keep It Simple Stupid) with no worries like we "Will it run?, do I have enough RAM, dang I gotta get a new gfx card.."

The flipside of course is that PC users can constantly upgrade their machines to stay abreast of the latest and the greatest.

What WOULD be nice is total cross-platform online gaming. So PCs, Xboxes, PS3s, Wii's (and any futire console) could all talk to each other on the online multiplayer world. (Does this alrwady happen? lol...I've never played online MP haha!)

Ok it IS capable, you're right. But it doesn't have those things so our viewpoint exists.

Maybe you should then be asking, WHY do the developers tend to be favouring consoles these days? Why are these innovations and titles not making it to the PC?

/Awaits people to start shouting 'Because CHILDREN on CONSOLES are easier to please!'

Because they can make money easier.

Only reason they don't develop as much for PCs any more because "there isn't money to be made in it" apparently.

Thats just plain and simply not true on both counts. They develop just as much for PC as they do console, PC has its fair share of exclusives and there is obviously money to be made or they wouldnt do it, the most anticipated games of E3 by vote were dominated by PC titles like Witcher 2 and Star Wars

And dont pull the piracy card because the 360 has a massive piracy problem

The problem is the consoles are holding back the PC but there are some multi platforms out there that dont, BC2, Metro 2033 are examples of games that are superior on the PC compared to their console versions. Unfortunately there are games that MW2 and Bioshock 2 that are examples of crap console ports that should have had more effort put into the PC versions

Who is this "they"? The big named publishers?

And undoubtedly so there are some unknown devs producing games likes Witcher 2, I can tell you now people who just use consoles won't know squat about the first witcher let a lone witcher 2.

And piracy? I didn't even have that in mind. :p

A lot of money is to be had in consoles, a lot more so than PC. I'm not saying PC doesn't make money, just far more money to be made where consoles are concerned.

I love PC there are so many hidden gems on it that people hardly ever talk about. I don't really care about this talk about peripherals being better than the other. I use both, I'm happy with both. Personally I just prefer being on my PC to play a game than a 360/PS3 these days.

They as in Devs, obvious I thought.

As for console gamers not knowing squat about games like Witcher thats exactly what I dont like about what gaming has become and what the consoles have made it into, they dont know about it because its not hyped, the enthusiast will find out about these things why as a console owner will just get sold the next reskinned engine based game from 2006. When System Shock 2 came out do you think it was rammed down your neck in an effor to sell it you in time for Christmas, nope, it was still a massively popular release

Theres no arguing that there is more money in consoles but that wasnt what you said was it.

No matter what anyone says, technology wise the PC is the better gaming platform, even the odd console port from certain devs wont change that and everything to do with gaming is based on technology. Coming back with "but can sit on your couch" thats great and if thats what you want then brilliant but it doesnt argue the fact that PC is the better gaming platform, it just is, thats it.

It is. A lot of people don't like hearing that for what ever reason but it is.

There isn't a whole load of games on console, there is just a lot of blockbusters. And demons souls for streetehs sake. :p

I don't understand this illusion that consoles is the more relaxed platform as a pc is just the exact same - hardware told to play games. :)

I was scared away from PC gaming for years during my N64 days, by fears of using a keyboard and mouse, being way above my ability and I believe that scarlotslot off PC gaming.

Cheers for reminding me I ain't defragged my drive for months; will check tonight if W7 has been able to do it automatically, anytime recently.

Me too I used to play Goldeneye and Perfect Dark all the time on N64. M+K was so intimidating, I tried it at a friends and all the keys scared me. Aiming with the mouse was real hard too while using WASD to walk around. I used to think N64 had better graphics too lol. Then I got my first PC when I was 13 and I still played N64 but when I started playing it on Project64 I upgraded my PC and haven't looked back.

The console market is just easier to sell and design games for. I could buy a 360 but I'd rather spend that money on upgrading my PC like a new SSD. Now I can load up Cod4 a lot faster than anyone on console can.

I few thoughts on this:

Consoles are made for kiddies. If older players are happy playing on them as well, so be it. Nobody's fault. It's like reading Noddy books in your bedroom when you should be reading Hawking.

If those older players are really interested in games, they'll drift towards PCs sooner or later anyway.

If an older console player refuses PC games, it just means he's happy with inferior gaming. The casual gamer.

Some people will just be happy to prefer Space Invaders Revisited 3D 2010 Edition to Baldur's Gate or Company of Heroes. Their loss.

Sadly, with console ports on the rise, our choices of original good games is going to be very limited indeed.

And (to answer the question) yes, it is a shame.

What a load of rubbish, you should be ashamed. Simply put, there is now a generation of gamers who have grown up with nes/master system, snes/mega drive, PS1/N64, PS2/Xbox, PS3/Xbox360/Wii. The console market is very 20-30 orientated as these people have MONEY. Once the 80s generation was hooked developers have merely matured along with the target audience.

And for me it was Syndicate that hooked me. The first time a stiff walked around the corner into 4 aug's with miniguns and flamethrowers will stay with me into dotage.

you cant deny that the console audience is much younger on average. thats why shops are full of parents during Christmas buying consoles as presents for kids. even a short multiplayer session on xbox360 live is enough evidence.

You wish they knew...

Great thing about back in the day, the uk online gaming scene being small and tighter knit.

Fewer games, fewer servers, we were all grouped together, virtualy everybody you played with night on night tripped off the tongue and populated your icq list.

Made stuff like Quake/Tribes/TFC mean a whole lot more than it does today joining X random server populated 80 percent full of players you've never seen before.

Tbh one of the reasons i realy have little interests in fps's these days.

I think you'll find that the average age is 23+, I'd hardly put that in the "kiddy" bracket.

That doesn't mean your previous post isn't complete rubbish, which it obviously is ;)

I've been an avid console and pc gamer since year dot and, without exception, have found that the very best, most involved games of any generation have been spread over the formats. Miss out on consoles or pc and you're guaranteed to miss some of the greatest games ever made. That it all.

All that shows is kids get them for christmas. The adults have already bought theirs.

And there are more kids on xbox live because....... maybe, more kids play on xbox live?

What about the age group of the people who don't play on live?

I suppose you think The Simpsons is a kids cartoon too.

Consoles are for everybody. Gaming PC's are for geeks.

As long as there's games that have been developed with the PC in mind, I'll be happy. The horrible ports have been killing my interest in the bigger titles (well, and the fact that most of them are really bad games), but there's still so much fun stuff to be found from smaller developers that I don't really care. There will always be a market for strategy games, shooters and simulations (racing, flight, etc) on the PC, and that'll keep enough players around for it to make sense to also develop other types of games with the platform in mind. I'll just play the sports games and such on the consoles and have a blast.

This is actually a good point. I played the original Day of Defeat mod for Half-Life quite religiously in a clan, and the community was made up of maybe 500 very devoted players. Everyone knew eachother and that made the clan matches even more interesting. I haven't been in a clan since those days, mainly because I just don't care about any community enough. Just a little something I miss.

You can still frequently join servers in CS:S and get to know the regulars but yeah it's not same.
