I'd say Ford have really upped there game there, check out the last page with images of the laps and graphs etc...

In the states the Mustang is $40k specced and then M3 $60k+

Doesn't seem to have any problems on the track with that live axel.

Makes me want one even more

"Try that in a Mustang - You'll be off the track"

Sums it up for me, you get what you pay for!

Good non biased review..... ;)

A Mustang is such an event though, how many have you seen in the past 2 months? 0? 1? 2? Less than 5? How many M3's have you seen and just thought "Ah right another M3".

People always use to say the Mustang was miles behind proper cars because the suspension would be shown up on a track - clearly not anymore.

An event? your kidding!

Spotting Gibbo's old one in & around Stoke was, certainly.

Granted, I live on the roads, but I see plenty of 'Stangs about.

I see plenty of boring bog standard mustangs around here. I just see them and think 'meh', when I see an E92 M3, I look and think "Damn, I want one".

The whole left hand drive thing would kill it for me if i was into those sort of cars.

You obviously don't live in the right place I see at least one every day ;)

Thats a bit unfair - its only because it isnt sold here.

Mustangs are ten a penny in the home market.

Correct, but 10 years ago if you'd have been asked Mustang or M3 you would have been laughed at. The Mustang wasn't even a credable car 10 years ago let alone an M3 rival. Now I think it's fair to say it's not far off it and possible an equal car.

Obviously it's LHD, costs more on insurance and you have to find one to buy.

Doesn't cost more to insure, I'm paying about 2/3 what I used to for an Evo 8 with the same BHP and about the same value. They are also not that difficult to get hold of, several specialist sellers in the UK that will import and get the UK conversion done which are mainly light fittings and their use.

I've looked into it. I live 20 minutes away from Bill Sheppherd - they must be getting sick of me.

Yet due to some recent S197 crashes I can't find a single insurance company that will touch me. Not even for a stupid quote like £5k.

They've all basically said "Sorry, you're under 25 - come back in 4 years", some even saying I'd be unlikely to get it while under 30 for a good price.

It is a powerful, imported car. What did you expect?

Even a run of the mill japanese import costs a wedge to insure in comparison with a "UK spec" car.

335i (Similiar performance as the 2005 V8 GT Mustang) cost to insure = £900
Evo 10 FQ360 cost to insure = £1800
Mustang cost to insure = Will not insure

Most companies will usually at least give you a quote, can't get a single figure out of any company.

Ditto.

I love Mustangs and my sisters actually looking at getting one so I should be able to get up close and personal with one (not the one linked). However I don't think I myself would ever be able spend money that sort of money on a LHD car. I can't see myself getting use to it and with a car like a Mustang not being able to pull out and over-take would be unbelievably fustrating. Though, as they say you shouldn't nock something untill you've tried it.

HI there

Having been in the new M3, I have to say sorted Mustang every time, simply more fun and more involving plus a far superior engine.

Sorry BMW guys, but 295lb/ft from a V8 and sub 15MPG average wheras the Mustang has 390lb/ft and can return closer to 22MPG average and not to state is far more tunable, really wins it for the Pony car for me.

Also can we just point out that is the M3 with the competition package as well that they tested against, which says to me this new Mustang would have beat the M3 without that addition.

The only issue the Mustang has is the shock/damper control, something easily sorted for less than $500 with some adjustable shock absorbers to give that extra control.

Plus what does this say for the new BOSS 302 and 302R coming in 2012, well I think it says the M3 is gonna get its ass kicked at the track by a car with a live axle that cost $20,000 less. :D
