DVLA medical after being banned for drink driving

The dont drink bit is when you have a blood test, its done to check you are not dependent on Achohol.

and I would hate to see your next insurance premium.

Obviously I don't know what punishment I would have received, had I given a sample. I suspect I would have gone to prison, so compared to that, a two year ban is pretty mint :p

Mate got three year ban 100 hrs c/service £1,000 fine, he never told us what he was over but him and a mate were out drinking heavily did a bottle of vodka between them when they got home, then had an argument and he decided to drive home from Norwich to Brighton then and there and hit a taxi head on :(

Yes I know the reason for the test ;) I am wondering how to pass it. It clearly isn't just a case of turning up for the test sober, because the test can detect alcohol consumption going back some time.

And yes my insurance will be a lot higher, but let me worry about that. I expect it will still be cheaper than a new driver with a clean licence has to pay.

5 weeks

Is it that hard?

Not remotely. I am wondering if that is really all there is to it :) I am particularly interested if they ask questions. I would prefer not to have to lie. eg. if I say 'oh yeah I just gave up for 5 weeks in order to pass this test' will that count against me.

Tbh dd, it is very unlikely you would have got time for a first offence drink driving offence. While a brief may tell you it is an option, I have never heard of it happening for a cut and dried section 4 or 5 RTA / refusal to provide.

As for your question, I have heard a minimum of two months and green tea as mentioned above.

Good luck with it. You have been candid with this from the start and I have to give credit in all honesty. :)

If you drink heavy now, you may be stuffed as one test can tell your last 6 to 12 months drinking habits.

So you cant lie, your way out of it

It is rare, but it has happened and I could provide links with people who have been imprisoned on a first offence, who have been several times the limit, and/or have had aggravating factors (as I did myself). Anyway it's all water under the bridge, a learning experience. Anyone reading this who drinks and drives, take my advice, don't be an idiot, it isn't worth the risk. I will never be doing it again.

Cheers.

I don't want to lie :) I am wondering what the test involves. If I fail then so be it, driving isn't the be-all and end-all. I will just take another medical in another year.

From a diagnostic perspective I will reiterate that the tests cant really be cheated or manipulated, its a serum blood analysis. The interpretation is where the pass/fail will occur, and I would expect there will be other information that will be considered. I presume it will be a medical professional working on behalf of the DVLA that will interpret the results, rather than the DVLA itself.
