DVLA medical after being banned for drink driving

Yes it is justified

Drink drivers KILL

There is no excuse to it.

I beg to differ etc.

Some drink drivers kill but not the majority of them but that is in no way a condonement of the act.

As for no excuse for it, I am getting the feeling that has been dd's train of thought from the start.

I have dealt with many drink drivers but seem to refrain from the personal insults that many throw their way as I don't take things personally. If I can do that perhaps those on an internet forum can as well.

Out of interest - how exactly can you test for alcohol consumption going back many weeks? I thought it was pretty much like amphetamine or something - after it's excreted it's gone!

Here you go . . .

When i was about 21, i regularly drove after 10 + pints. I once drove after 20 pints, but i had consumed a fair amount of amphetamine, so I was functioning pretty well. TBH I never got caught and I think I'm probably safe up to 6 pints and a lot safer than many old codgers up to 10 pints.

But I never drink drive now I'm 32, as my licence is my job, But the laws are ridiculous and just another INFRINGMENT ON OUR CIVIL RIGHTS :/

This is what happens when a keyboard warrior and a troll breed.

Alcohol is toxic. Sustained, heavy, consumption damages your body, and leaves detectable signs in terms of raised (or lowered) levels of various chemicals.

If DD isn't sloshing back multiple pints a night, or quaffing bottles of vodka at the weekend, he has nothing to worry about.

Well I've certainly drunk heavily on some occasions in recent weeks and months. Whether it will be sufficient for me to fail the test, time will tell. From now on I am stopping entirely, until the test.

Not so. The Liver is the only organ in the body that can heal scar tissue. It's incredible.

Not totally correct

A healthy liver is able to regenerate most of its own cells when they become damaged.

Excesive drinking will cause cirrhosis of the liver

Aye, it can't entirely restore itself, no. And if you beat it enough, it'll pass the point of no return. But for you, I, and the heavy drinker at the bar, it'll patch itself up given time to do so.

It can heal itself, yes. But in this instance is the measurement of AST, ALT and GGT are markers for liver damage, the point of the test is to establish if there has been liver damage by (in this particular case) alcohol use.

I would like to say it is so. Thats why they're used.

I do these tests on a daily basis.

I wonder how long after taking the test, before I get the results? Will I be told immediately or will I have to wait weeks for a letter?

If there is evidence of persistent alcohol misuse within the past 6 months or alcohol dependency within the past 12 months or there is evidence of current ongoing alcohol misuse or dependency then a high risk offenders application for a driving licence will be refused.

I doubt a few beers on a Saturday night will classify as mis-use or dependency. If you do have issues with alcohol clearly this will be a problem for you, which is the point of the test.

How long will it take to get the results of my medical?

If the DVLA can make a decision based on the information provided including all relevant medical results they aim to make a decision on most cases within 15 working days.

If they need to investigate further and require more information from their medical advisors or your GP then they aim to make a decision on most cases within 90 working days.

This will be in addition to the time it takes for blood samples to be sent for testing and analysis which should take no longer than a week or so.

I'd just steer clear of STRONGED LAGER a month before the due date. Stick to shandies. Not the hand kind though.
