i don't have 'check for updates' that's the issue

Jimmy, I think you have to set and leave the date forward for a a few hours or days to get the network to push the OTA update to the handset.
yeah just been reading up on google, unlocked and debranded no probs, the misses will love it, and leave my desire alone
yeah that's all checked, will leave it with the date pushed fwd over night connected to wireless

Forgive me if this is a well known fact, but ive ran up a £21 data charge on Orange. Apparently some sites charge you to go on them? And this is not inlcuded in your data plan?!!?

sounds like bs to me as how can these sites know your details to charge you?
I've been trying the Froydvillain releases the last couple of weeks. The only real issue is that the releases are coming too frequently.
However, it has made the phone very very fast compared to what it was. Touch response is silky smooth now.

They add it to your phone bill. They don't need to know your details..

how can they (the website company) add it to your phone bill though? genuine question it seems crazy that a site can simply say to orange charge this person because they visited my site and then orange will?
Same way when you buy something from the market place (eg when I bought aHome), it says 'this fee will be added to your bill'. They can't just add £££ willy nilly to your bill, they would have a mechanism in place to show that this phone has accessed their dirty content.

but the marketplace is different in that it's run by google etc, however visiting a website from any old browser has no way to charge anyone afaik from their phone bill, if a site has a charge then they'd normally require you sign up and hand over your bank details and then charge that way
