Very worried as mixed G11 with G12 in my Golf!!!

Right basically my water pump went on my newly purchased Mk 4 2001 Golf So my dad came round and he fixed it all, but unfortunately I was at work while he did this and he put blue coolant in (G11 I believe) but the original colour coolant was pink (G12?) . So I now know that this is a big no no so will be doing a coolant flush but had a few questions:

I can't do the flush till Sunday, might be able to do tomorrow but not sure yet. So is it ok to drive it till Sunday? And also am I right in thinking all I need to do is to undo the drain valve under the car from the rad, put a hose in the expansion tank run the engine and wait till the water coming out is clear? Then fill with G12+ diluted 50/50?

And I thought I got bad car paranoia

Personally i'd just leave it and keep an eye on the coolant to see if it burns it off but if it bothers you that much it'll be more than fine until Sunday
 
Yes its the coolant additive and from what I have been reading it is a problem as mixing G11 and G12 will turn the liquid to a sludge and block the coolant system.
 
i've read sites that said not to mix blue and pink coolant or it could cause big problems so i know why the OP is concerned.

I'd always believed them to be true ?

The output of the engine has sweet FA to do with chemical incompatabilty.

A Super output engine would be running pretty much water anyway ;)

Well if you are correct then i can't see it changing from liquid to sludge in 3 days. Presumably it's a reaction from the 2 chemicals and heat and thousands of miles.

I think you are worrying far too much. Drive as usual and drop it and change it on Sunday.
 
Some total ******** posted in this thread, but lets face it second guessing is fun too.

I mixed the Blue and Pink stuff by accident once, resulting in foam forming in the expansion tank within 5 mins of the engine running.

Ditto, a quick flush was the best course of action.
 
Just drain it and re fill with pink coolant.

I did this on my LCR as the guy who did my water pump and cambelt just re filled the car with plain water :(

The OP doesnt state he mixed it in the first post, it states that the wrong grade was put in, or thats how I read it :confused:
 
Well its actually been 2 weeks since we fixed the water pump and so far so good no warning lights. I'll open up the expansion tank and see what colour the water is, if its a brown colour I'll try and do the flush tomorrow. If its still clear I'll wait till sunday.

EDIT: Yeah the engine had G12 or pink coloured coolant in and then my Dad topped it up with blue coolant (G11 i think) so they will be mixing in the engine and according to everything I read they react together and form a sludge.

So if the coolant has turned brown as a result of incorrect mixture, what does this mean? I've seen coolant looking brown after its been topped up before!
