12gb for i7 950 cad machine

Ok, im starting off building a new i7 machine for CAD and animation house stuff.
I’m looking at different components one at a time so please excuse me popping up all over the place.
So far I have

Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366)
Asus P6X58D-E
1TB Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black, SATA 6Gb/s, 7200rpm, 64MB Cache, 8 ms

I’m looking at 12gb of RAM. Silly question but is 6 x 2 sticks ok? It just uses all my slots up so can’t put more in if required.

you can use 6x2gb and i would recommend HyperX at the moment as i have been having compatibility issues with corsair XMS. You can also get 4gb modules as that board can use 24gb but they are not cheap.

What problems you having with xms also what kit is it as im ordering that stuff for a new build.

Got 6 * 2GB sticks of Patriot in mine. No problems, limits the Overclocks a bit.
