Canon have announced a two lenses that I want on the same day:

400mm f2.8 with the new IS that weighs 1.5kg less than the old one. That will make a lot of difference. The old one was made from lead, gold and depleted uranium and was simply too heavy to carry around, let alone hand-hold. And the new floaty IS is worth waiting for.

And I had been mentaly fighting over the choice between an 8mm circular fisheye from or a 15mm rectangular one when they bring out an 8-15mm zoom. There is space for that in the bag too.

This is going to be expensive. Don't know how expensive yet... But then, there is no hurry, I can't afford them yet...

Also released: 300mm f2.8, 70-300 f4-5.6, 60D, 1.4x III, 2.0x III,.
The new 500mm and 600mm are coming soon

Andrew

Nice, appears the wait for the 60D is finally over... too bad i got impatient and got the 5d2... good thing as I don't like the look of it anyway. I think the 50d looked better.

So the rumors were indeed true. The 40D moves out of the semi pro line up. encouraging sales for the 7D and 5D.

Its a lovely feature packed body but I wouldn't go SD or plastic body or even smaller body from a 40D. 5D is the realistic upgrade here.

I need that 400!! :D

Impressive at just 4kg though, I'm also interested in the current 300 IS now, hopefully they'll come down in price so I'm not stuck with the nonis.

8-15mm? is that EF or EF-S?

wait, just saw, F/4, L-Glass.....I am guessing, £1.2k there abouts. or may be more...

Me wants one !

Have you seen the prices of the new Mark III extenders! I know they've improved them but the prices are up to the £550 mark for the 1.4x! Almost double the price.

Just seen preorder prices for the new lenses on a British Photographic retailer.

8-15mm f4.0 L USM - £1499.99

70-300mm f4/5.6 L IS USM - £1599.99

300mm f2.8 L IS II USM - £7499.99

400mm f2.8 L IS II USM - £11499.99

70-300 £1600 ouch, can get a 70-200 2.8 mk2 for close to that on import.

Wish they would do a 100-400mk2, that price would scare me as well.

I think the 'actual' prices will be a little lower than that TBH.

You could buy a 400 2.8 IS 1 for the price of that 300 IS2!

Totally agree, but at some point the existing stock of the IS1's will run out and they'll be discontinued - then you'll have to pay the premium for the new IS2's.

This amused me.....

Am I the only one thinking terrible... :(

Plastic body where a nice small Mg alloy body used to be (some people need small and light) and then 3-4 lenses that replace lenses that have only been replaced a few years ago anyway. Why miss all the lenses that haven't been replaced since the inception of the EF mount?

To cap it off it looks like Canon are going into a money spinner with an "L" 70-300. Now fine if it was any different to the old one, but from the look of it it will be the old one with a new paint job for far more money, makes even less sense than the DO version. Who would buy that over a 70-200 and 1.4tc (which would be cheaper)?

It does look a little like Canon are trading on the L brand with the 70-300 - I mean really - £1600? - more than the 100-400? or the 70-200 f/4? It'll have to be really incredibly good, Nikon's 70-300 VR is optically pretty good and costs around a quarter of the price...
