Virgin rumours???

IMO 20Mb will become the new bottom tier, and people that wish to remain on 20Mb will be able to do so and have a price cut.
If they did that it'd probably be the final nail in ADSL's coffin... it's already falling well behind the fibre-optic as it is.

Hope so --- I was on the 300K service originally, went 300 -> 500? -> 1MB -> 2MB -> 10MB all on free upgrades over the last 4-5 years or so.

No I meant Cisco. That's why I said Cisco. But it sounds like you know something I don't?

It won't be Cisco, it will be "Linksys by Cisco" consumer grade guff. For them to actually hand out decent equipment to every 100Mb subscriber would cost them an absolute fortune. It will most definately be Linksys equipment with that annoying "by Cisco" branding they are slapping all over it just because Cisco own Linksys.

Random off topic post, Paradigm, how are your temps with your q6600 in your Lian Li PCA71F case with the door? What fans and noise levels too? Taa :)

Noise is pretty much non-existant with replaced low dB fans, and my temps are relatively low, around 35ºc idle.

Do you have it connected to the WAN port of a 10/100 router, such as that supplied by VM?

Right now I do, because VM didn't give me a router yet so I'm using my old WRT54G.
I can't exactly recall, but I think it said the same when I was experimenting with the WRT610n.

Got a link to that jayster? I'm interested also as to the basic functionality of the combined router. I heard they might be cisco equipment.

Well, my modem says:

Ethernet Link Status Up 100 Mbps/Full duplex

So it's clearly NOT 1.0 Gbps.

Could well be true, I just moved onto virgin a couple of weeks ago, and the engineer said that the router we received have only been in service for a couple of days. So maybe the 20-50 jump is going to happen as you guys have said.

Or maybe I just want it to be free

Streaming blu-rays...mmm...

Even P2P based services such as iPlayer would be able to handle blu-ray quality media.

Cable TV would surely become purely internet-based!!

Porn would just be off the hook...if I was interested in that kind of thing, if you're reading, wifey.

That's what the future is for Virgin. I'm sure the TIVO boxes of the future are looking to be IP based over the net delivery....atleast I thought I read something like that before. All speculation though - a lot of that in this thread! :)

So to confirm, the newer "all in one" Virgin modem/routers have Gigabit LAN ports? What about the incoming WAN port? I take it that's gigabit given that they do want to push above and beyond 100mbit net over the next few years.
