cinema prices!

It is the price of three pints. Don't see the problem.

£4.80 for 3 pints in my local. Though I do get a discounted rate to the public. I wouldn't pay for the cinema, it really is too much. Luckily my friend works there so I always get to go for free and get discounted popcorn. I do wonder if I don't enjoy the films as much as I would if I paid for them though.

Last time I went to the cinema was to see The Simpsons Movie. But I hardly think that 42 quid is a lot for 3 people's ticket and the food and drink. It's less than 15 quid each for god's sake, 19 going on 90 I say!! Grumble grumble ;)

I paid £12 to see Avatar on IMAX in 3d and thought it was worth it. It was still only an extra £2 for the 3d.

The IMAX bit is the most expensive and what you are paying your money for.

And since you had to pre book your exact seats in advance and could only do it a week in advance, every Tuesday I found that they sold out straight away and it was 6 weeks before we got tickets.

You know, I was at the local art-house cinema a while ago, and saw Un prophète, probably the best film I've seen for ages. Foreign language, but as long as subtitles aren't an issue I'd highly recommend it (for adults). Think there might be a dubbed version, but they never seem right.

I'll have a look, I am ok with French so subs not a problem :)

£42 excludes the food and drink but yeah, I agree with the sentiment.

I think Cinema tickets are stupidly expensive now, when I was a student a ticket was a fiver, now they've doubled in price.

I'm also not a big fan of 3D, the ****ty glasses realy decrease the colour saturation of the movies and make them look bland as well as being distracting.

I wouldn't bother going to the cinema at all any more if I didn't get free entry to the local Odeon because my GFs brother works for them.

I don't understand why cinemas are charging more for 3D films, it doesn't cost more to show them, in fact it should probably cost less if they're after upgrading from decades old projectors. From a distributors stand point the film costs a lot less to distribute and the films can now be stored on solid state cartridges instead of on thousands of Euros worth of 35mm print.

Sure the projectors are expensive to install but it's not like they need to repay the cost on them straight away as they'll be operating for the next decade or two. As far as I've seen the digital projectors are very easy to operate and maintain meaning you could probably cut down on staff costs as a result of them as well.

The only added cost I can see is the glasses but if people continually re-use their glasses then that charge should be taken off the ticket price.

What's more insane is that most of the money handed over at the box office goes back to the distributors meaning the cinema gets very little of it, certainly not enough to continue running on. However, the main problem here is distributors as if cinemas don't make enough money on films then they won't get the latest greatest releases which would effectively kill the film.

The main reason cinemas are charging extra for 3D though is greed, it's a limited service which isn't quite widespread yet so people will travel far to go see spectacles such as Avatar and, more importantly, it's not feasible for most people to set up a 3D experience at home. The only place people can see 3D is in certain cinemas and they know it.

I believe they also often need to change the projection glass/projection surfaces too though. There is a fair investment needed, and it is a "premium" product. If people aren't willing to pay, just don't go, and they'll get the message.

Costs £10.50 for a 3D film with 3D glass's at my cinema for a adult but i use my student card and go on a Orange Wednesday so it works out about £8 for 2 people.
