Councils urged to remove unnecessary street signs

As was your post, well done.

Considering the number of idiots that can't read current signs I'm not sure removing them is wise, even less for them to notice. For normal people mind it does mean less clutter to distract us. :)

To be fair if they can't read them now, I doubt they will be able to read them even if we had more or less.

they've gone traffic light mad where I live.

Pickles is so bonkers I actually like him, hopefully he will never be put in charge of anything more serious.

Whilst I like the idea, something else is annoying me.

It will now cost each council £LOTS to remove the signs because of the "risk management" processes that have take place...

- Health and safety evaluations;
- Risk assessmens on what the sign was doing there in the first place;
- Paying one person to remove the sign, the other fifteen to lay out traffic cones, spot for cars that might be driving past, etc.

The list goes on and on and on...

Very good idea!

Half the signs these days are the equivalent to "Remember to breathe".

Also at night the glow from all those signs when your headlights hit them is soo distracting and the bright light from it loses your focus from the road.

I wonder if perhaps any organisations from the advertising and/or retail industries contributed to the Tory party - I think we should be told.
What are you on?

near where I live the is a dangerous bend, people used to regularly under steer off onto the grass, no harm done (cept muddy tyres). Then they put those > > > > > > > markers around the bend, now people under steer into metal poles lol, if it aint broke don't fix it

I've seen pointless street signs in the past but that video was ridiculous - they didn't identify a single thing that wasn't necessary.

One way sign, no entry sign? No loading sign? I'd like to have some clue before I'm given a ticket or a head on crash thank you.

Traffic lights, railings, street lights? Sure, lets just not bother, landscape the whole thing with fluffy bunnies and kisses and I'm sure everything will turn out lovely.

... What are you on?
Certainly not whatever it is that this fat slob rams down his gullet

;)

Eric Pickles seems much more concerned about road signs than about adverts which are only designed to persuade mugs to spend, spend, spend.
One confuses motorists, the other is the life blood of the economy!
