Mercedes C Class a mistake?

The 1.8 s are all right if its just for the weekend, never driven a 1.6

Plus of course exciting is relative, if you normally drive a Corsa for example, any Merc is exciting :)

The C180 CGI 'BlueEfficiency' is a 1.6. 156PS, turbocharged with direct injection. I'd guess the C180 Kompressor is also a 1.6 (though obviously supercharged rather than turbo'd).

They only made 2 I think and I understand 3 of those were written off so only 1 left. Some of this might be wrong.

Slllloooowwwwww

If it's a W204 the new 1.6 engine is brilliant considering it's a 1.6!

One of the selling points of the W204 is its refinement. I don't think a 4 pot is as refined as a silky V6. A 4 pot has no place in a car like this! ;)

Clearly not as one is a 1.6 and one is a 1.8

The 1.6 was introduced to replace the 1.8, and then later turbo charged - offering lower emissions and lower fuel consumption.

Okay clever clogs you've pointed out they have different displacements! :p Other than I'm sure they're fundamentally the same.

Kompressors are 1.8s just in various states of tune, c180 / c200 i think.

They are slow but they are quiet and comfortable, there are plenty worse places to spend a weekend.

Get an auto for ****s sake.

It's probably an excellent car, but you'll doubtless come back and tell us how rubbish it is, because you seem that kinda guy. Only bad bit about them really is the naff interior.

Other than being wallowy, I found the 1.6 blue efficiency feet good. The engine doesn't feel like a 1.6 normally does.

So no, it won't be dull or anything

One of the selling points to the W204 C Class is it's economy and emissions for the Fleet market - after all this is the C Classes biggest market.

For refinement customers have a choice of larger engines, you are right about the second bit - MB changed the displacement of the engine however made sure it provides the same BHP, in real life the 1.6 isn't as nice to drive as the 1.8 and you really need to rev it to get going.

It is an excellent engine for a 1.6 but not my cup of tea, however if I had to pay company car tax on it then it makes good sense as you get the same interior and exterior but lower costs.

The auto is thirstier than the manual, with the manual you do get start stop though.

My choice would be the 6 pot diesel with 7g tronic box in Sport guise.

Mercedes do offer a proper engine in the C Class - the C350 with more than 300bhp. Sadly only 3 people ever bought one.

The Sport ones look fantastic - easily better than the pre LCI 3 Series saloon - but I just cant get over the interior, especially with its Astra style radio and stupid slideout nav screen cover :(
