Just had my insurance renewal..

Mini Cooper S with a couple of mods.

2 years NCB, 1 fault claim in '08, No convictions.

£810 Fully Comp.

Thank You Elephant.. :D

I was moaning before thinking I could get it cheaper and realised I was still under 25... lol

I'm not sure I'd be over the moon peeing £810 away on insurance

Grow old.

I pay about £230 f/c for my e36 328i.:)

And an e60 M5 should I want one? - my insurers quote me £550 f/c!

Some advantages to going Grey after all it seems..... :o

clear drops, yes...but I would expect a better rate than that.

I'm under 25, driving an unmodified ST220, with 1 (or is it 2?!) years NCB and 6 points. (2x SP30) and I pay £710.

Fully comp with Bell, also part of the Admiral group.

My insurance on the Mini is £400ish with all mods declared :)

Have you tried any of the specialists like Sky? Greenlight?

They are cheap for a reason. Elephant are terrible. Try calling them and you will be on hold for at least 10 minutes to then be answered by one of their international call centres. Want a courtesy car when your car goes in for a service. That's £40 please. Crash your car and they dictate where you car gets repaired at their approved garages e.g. cheapest.

Elephant is good if you have a car you don't care about, but someone I would avoid if you value any of the above.

True, but many would only pay what they pay their own garages - making you liable for the difference. Many have some sort of similar phrase written in the policy.

I wouldn't now I have a mortgage!

Sounds like your doing well for yourself. But bugger paying anything over 1.5k insurance whilst also paying for a newer Scooby!

Mines doubled going from my Clio 16v to an old S3 at 1.2k :(

I was expecting mine to drop a lot this year. 4 years NCB (25 years), £550 for an IG7 car (third party). Last year it was £650. I was hoping turning 25 would make a big difference.

I would say that you have a better postcode and my fault claim also don't forget. I would have got it at £650 if I hadn't had a fault claim.

Greenlight I tried came out at £898. I shall just have to wait another year till that accident disappears and I have another years NCB :)

Also wrong. The only clause about chosing your own garage with that particular insurer, to my knowledge, is that they wont give you a courtesy car and they reserve the right to insist on 3 quotes to ensure you are not ripping them off.

I was speaking generally, I don't know about their policy - but I DO know several other insurers have the phrase I listed in their policies.

I was speaking specifically

Fair enough :)

ie AXA Direct/Swiftcover

'If your car is damaged, we will use one of our recommended repairers to repair it. If you choose not to use them, we may not pay more than our recommended repairer would have charged and we may choose to settle the claim by a cash payment'
