Dell UltraSharp U2410 24" vs Hanns.G HZ281HPB 27.5"

These monitors are in a different league really. The Dell is a far better monitor in all scenarios to be truthful however if your word processing then so long as you can what your doing then there really isnt any question as to the monitor you should get (cheapest).

With regards to games... the Dell is the better monitor however with a little effort the Hanns-g can replicate colours to a more than reasonable level. Its bright, has "ok" viewing angles and does the job very well.

Youll be happy with either really. More so the Dell due to its over all quality. The Hanns-g is by no means a tacky unit and can hold its own well considering.

Whats your pocket telling you to buy?

Andy

Thanks for that.

Well to be honest I don't mind how much I spend on the monitor if its within the £500 mark but I was just wondering what I should go for..

I don't know much about viewing angles but I don't think that'll imply to me as I will sit infront of it and wont be sitting at an angle.

Will one produce better graphics/visuals than the other in games?

Is it just the colours?

You would have to be out of your mind to spend 500 on a 24 inch monitor for games.
You can buy a high quality 27" TN panel for half the price.

It's all relative to income and most people have digital cameras these days. I may be able to afford the Dell so that's what I might go for. The Hanns G dos look a buy buy for the money but may be too big for sitting 2 feet away?

Not at all. Some people would spend that money on a flashy smartphone only to get it out for on occasional text. The broad colour gamut of the U2410 really adds a nice layer of pizazz into the gaming experience and the overall quality and brightness of the image makes the experience very enjoyable. It is of course personal choice whether to spend that on a monitor and I understand those who wouldn't - but if you use your computer a lot it's something you really want to get right.

Have you actually used a Dell Ultrasharp? I thought the same until I tried my housemate's U2407HC, then I ended up spending £400 on a U2410, worth every penny, it's leagues better than a TN, I use a 23" TN at work myself.

Just using the dell it looks nice quality. Tbh I would only want a bigger screen like a 27" if it had a higher res to match. I agree with the post above. The U2410 is worth every penny.

is it just the colour which is better then I wouldn't buy it as I'm sure you can tweak the Hanns.G to look good enough for games like Crysis?

I have been using the Hanns.G HZ281HPB for a few months now.
I did consider the Dell U2410 but I wanted something significantly bigger than my old Samsung 22". The Dell gets fantastic reviews and (as someone else has already mentioned) is in a different league to the Hanns G. The U2410 oozes quality and it has a price tag to match.

If you've got the money and you're happy with 24" instead of 27.5" then the Dell is probably as good as it gets. However, a bigger screen really helps when it comes to games. It's more immersive. You're right in it! Don't worry about sitting too close. I sit about 2ft from mine. (Sometimes even closer when things start to get frantic and I get a bit too excited.)

The viewing angles aren't brilliant but does that really matter if you're sitting right in front of it?

Spend 15 minutes tweaking the colour settings on the Hanns G and you can get it to look surprisingly good.
Everyone who has bought the HZ281HPB is very happy with it, as you can read in this thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18139419

I recieved my Hanns G yesterday, can't comment on how it compares to the Dell or how it performs with Crysis however I used it all day yesterday, played a bit of BF2, Testdrive Unlimited and Mass Effect 2 and all looked great.

Watched a couple of full HD films as well and they looked fantastic, also browsed through a load of high res pics and can't complain on image quality at all really.

When I first fired it up I was nearly blinded by how bright they have it by default (100%!), adjusted it down to 18 which seems more than enough for me, haven't changed any colour settings only brightness and contrast and it looks great.

Do games look pixelated at native resolution as its quite low for the size?

Looked ok to me, only pixelation I noticed was on some films if sat too close.

Gaming 2-3 feet away I had no issues at all though, and when leaning forward a few times can't say I noticed any issues either.

I was a bit dubious about how good the monitor would be myself as it is rather cheap for what it is, bought it on a whim with intention that if I didn't like it I would simply send it back under DSR, but I'm more than happy with it!

I don't think you will get any owners of either screen recommending the other. Either I'm sure will make you happy but I would consider then hanns a downgrade from an IPS like the U2410 but then again I'm just as biased as every other owner.

On the contrary, I have already stated earlier in this thread that the Dell is in a league of its own. You cannot compare the 2 screens. The U2410 is 24 inches of screen perfection.

Absolutely not. There is no pixelation whatsoever when I play any of my games.
Come to think of it, none of my friends complain about pixelation when they're playing Xbox 360/PS3 games on 40" TVs with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 so I wouldn't expect it to be an issue on a 1920 x 1200 27" monitor.

You say that the resolution is low for the size but is it really?
Have you looked at the specifications of the 27" monitors available today. You will see that the vast majority of them are 1920 x 1080 panels. There are one or two at 1920 x 1200. And then there is the Dell U2711 with 2560x1440 which is the exception, not the rule.

I haven't reinstalled Crysis since I bought the Hanns G but I have been playing Borderlands, Age of Conan and Battlefield 2. They all look great. No pixelation. No ghosting. No lag.

Thanks then I don't see why the Dell is better?

If you say its JUST better colours and viewing angles then i'm not too bothered with that and isn't worth the extra in my opinion..

I completely agree with your last statement. That's why I bought the Hanns G instead of the Dell. I couldn't justify the expense. Especially as I wanted something bigger than 24".

So if you're not bothered about the superior colour reproduction of the IPS panel, the 4 port usb hub, the displayport interface, the twin DVI ports (in addition to the hdmi and vga ports), the card reader, the highly adjustable stand and the excellent viewing angles then you should buy the Hanns G.
Then you'll have some spare cash to splash out on a solid state drive (if you haven't got one already) :)
