Booted up the PC, clicked the Steam icon and get this:

steamd.jpg

Looking in my Steam folder (Shortcut destination), my steam.exe seems to have gone missing! I have no idea how though?!

Anyway, I try some of the other .exe's and get this everytime:

steam2z.jpg

Any ideas on how to fix gratefully appreciated!

EDIT: Installed to a new directory and just copy and pasted the Steam.exe to my existing folder.

However, running it says: Windows cannot access the device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item.

It then deletes Steam.exe

?!?!?!

Ouch! 181GB I think its going to be a long night :(

I dont know of another way im sorry mate unless someone else does.

What if you cut it to another place on the same drive then cut it back? Should be a lot quicker then copying it.

EDIT: beaten to it :p

I remember having this problem, had to uninstall steam then install it again, just remember to backup the steamapp folder, i didnt....

You only have to cut it out of that folder, so to the root is fine (So E:\), then it'll do it almost instantly. You don't need to move it across to another drive if you don't have to, just so you can delete the F-ed up Steam folder you have, then follow the mans instructions. Which is the same process I use when moving games between Windows Reinstalls without having to redownload it all.
