Just recieved my GTX470

Sorry don't have GTA IV.

60% Fan speed on the GTX470 is approx. 2400rpm. I've just been running Mafia II benchmarks back to back for about 30mins on the stock fan profile and its stabalised at 77C w/ 53% fan speed.

40min furmark still same 53 current 54max, thats as high as its going to get.

I was asking Nickson for prove, I know AMP! doesn't run that hot.

It's ok, I just ran GTA IV and it doesn't go above 75*C in game. It does however heat up to 77-78 during cut scenes? Something is ****** up about this game me thinks :p

What's the most intensive game you got there? I mean Mafia 2 benchmark doesn't heat my GPU at all, find something else for comparison :) How about Just Cause 2? It's pretty GPU intensive iirc.

33% on my reference Radeon 5850 spins up the fan to 2400 rpm.

My 3dMark Vantage Score.

Core 850MHz, Shader 1700MHz, Mem 1800MHz. Core 1087mV

Not baaaaaaaad :D

Realtemp to show the temp, went slightly higher than last time, not sure why.

I don't have many games installed really... aside from stuff like the benchmark versions of RE5, crysis, etc. the only games I have installed are MW2, Eve Online and Mafia II, possibly Batman AA and a couple of other older games.

Ok then, no wonder you don't have to run your GPU fan at high speeds :)

I see, 90*C in Vantage Nickson, run it with PhysX off please (for comparison).

Heh MW2 is capped at 90FPS online and Eve I use vsync @ 120Hz so neither really work the card hard (whisper quiet). Mafia II gets it a little warmer but actually playing its mostly around 66C maybe heading towards 70C after prolonged playing.

I have thrown other stuff like heaven benchmark, stone giant, etc. at it too. Nothing except for Furmark, OC Scanner, etc. really get it hot or noisey.

Look at the GPU score, the physx only boost cpu score.

No need to run it without physx, your not comparing systems are you.

or just disable all bechest a part from gpu ones so that you only get gpu score.

Heaven and stone giant are as intensive as any game out there.

I'm probably not a good example of the real temps, etc. for this card tho - I've adapted the temp sensors on my case to feed into a fan controller to regulate intake and exhaust fans to get as close to optimal airflow as possible, also the airflow is divided into 3 "channels" HDD/GPU, SYS (northbridge) and CPU - so in theory the heat from one section doesn't affect temps in another area until we hit saturation on how much can be transferred to the external environment.

@Nickson

Thanks for posting this info, as I too have a dual PCB GTX 295, and am considering GTX 470.

People have complained about how loud and hot the GTX 470's are, but those with GTX 295 (stock cooled, me included) cant see the problem as these cards are loud and seem to think the 480/470's are the same or better.

My question would be is do you think 1x is enough to replace the 295? as I was originally thinking of getting 2x in SLI to see sufficient gain over the 295.

Thanks

Out the box a GTX470 will be a little slower overall, but with overclocking it will be generally faster - sometimes by quite a bit and far more consistant performance. I have no regrets moving from my heavily OC'd GTX260 SLI (faster than 295) to a GTX470 but I wouldn't be in a hurry to do it again. With almost 40% OC on the 470 tho it is quite a bit faster and definitely more consistant performance wise.

Its not a problem at all :D

I had a Gainward Dual PCB and it was so loud even on idle. used MSI Afterburner to create a new fan profile and even at 33% the fan was still clearly audiable (lowest it would go)

As for replacing the GTX295, if you overclock the GTX470 it beats a GTX295 at stock settings!

See my two benches here:

Managed to get that to 22k overclocked.

GTX470 (overclocked)

Stock speeds the score was about 14/15k.

And that is with less heat and noise than the GTX295.

2 In SLi would obliterate a GTX295!

Thanks Nickson, that gives me a clue of how well i7 with 470 perform overall :)

Anyway, just did 3DMark GPU run myself, here's the score:

31584736.png

GPU fan at 37% (2700 rpm), temps max out at 75*C with case fans on low (can't be bothered with switching fan controller all the time, not for the sake of a few C degrees).

I was quite interested in the GPU score as bhvy suggested Guru3D review as represntative of overall performance of 460 and 470 and posted a screenie with 3dMark results were 5850 performed better than 470. It doesn't seem to be the case though, as I suspected. I wonder how much impact on performance in this benchmark does the CPU have.

Idle my GTX295 was about 60-65.

This, with a custom fan profile is 51! and I cannot hear it!

Not bad for £200 ;)

EDIT:: Idles at 48! It was still cooling down from Vantage when I took that temp!

You are still doing that with less heat and noise :P

15 degrees less for 2k (ish difference)

Swings and roundabouts!!
