The text conversation I had with a mate over a courtesy car

I got a Zafira 1.8 as my courtesy car, because it's "equivalent". It's all bull.

I got a Nissan Xtrail 2.2DCi as an "equivalent" courtesy car when I had the Leon Cupra R rear ended.

It's about as "like for like" as giving me a canal boat, however I wasn't fussed in the slightest after the initial shock of being delivered a 4x4.

I've just had a quick glance through your last 7 days of posts and would you beleive it, not a single one is about a car, it's all about the opinions of other people on this forum. Gosh, how strange. Fancy that? Were you an active contributor to car related discussion then I doubt anyone would mind you also holding an opinion on the way others post, but... you don't seem to be. I wonder why you post in Motors if you dont talk about cars..

Well that's a complete lie isn't it.. :(

Your reading comprehension level must be exceedingly low, coupled with a spectacularly poor ability to use the search facility to say that every single post of mine is not about a car, and certainly to think it's ALL about other peoples opinions.

I do choose which threads I contribute too, and yes, I don't roll over when I see people getting harsh, rude and ridiculing others, I find that unnecessary and uncalled for in many many situations, I do tend to try and bring some more balance to the thread.

But when car advice is needed, and I want to offer it, I do so.

This thread is a classic, you can dole out ridicule and irrationality by the bucketload when it's you doing it, but the moment someone else behaves the same way and it involves something you disagree with, you start acting like a little princess about it.

What is so wrong with me posting in a thread where it's clearly being very irrational and bigotry is rife? If these people don't like it, tough, suck it up, there is always someone out there that won't take that type of nonsense, if you can't take it, don't give it out.

If my behaviour is inappropriate, report me to a mod, that's what they are here for.

You have no idea about me or my background/experiences, I'm not an extrovert, I choose when I speak, that is all. People that know me certainly don't think I don't have an interest in cars, I'm just more of what I class a Petrolhead as, engineering appreciation, a thirst of ultimate power, and a desire to drive cars very hard, I'm still an adrenaline junkie after 21 years of driving, fuel consumption is the last thing on my mind when it comes to make a journey more notable. This may be at odds with the definition you choose to band around, and I can't help that.

I came into the thread with smileys and made a point to say I was being light-hearted, but clearly you treat this like it's serious business.

:)

I said I had a 'quick glance' rather than a comprehensive search - if there are posts you make actually about cars rather than the people who post about them then thats great, but it certainly doesn't 'feel' that way. Your other posts must dilute them somewhat.

You don't fool anyone with your smileys, your thoughts are perfectly clear.

It seems your mission in life to get offended on behalf of everyone else. If JRS wants your help to 'defend' him I'm sure he'll let you know.

You are entitled to post what you like. Just as I am entitled to find it odd you only ever seem interested in what everyone else has posted rather than... cars and whether they suck or are great, or whatever.

And really, seriously, it wasn't that the car in question was a BMW. Heck its a BMW 318d and you KNOW my feelings about 4 cylinder diesel engines. As I said in my opening post I even posted a comprehensive review of this particular car when I drove 1500 miles in one in 2008 and I didn't rate the choice of engine at all. I'd have posted exactly the same thing if it was an Audi, or a Mercedes, probably anything.

Zafira? Maybe, maybe not. We'll never know there.

The car in question is secondary to the main point that he basically slagged off the car because it had the wrong transmission for his mate.

I often criticise cars but I've always got a reason - whether its immediately apparent to you or not. There was no reason in this at all.

If I have ever posted a thread with an OP as devoid of any sort of logic or rationality as this one, then I suspect I would have been deservedly flamed for it as well.

Ironically it seems its your judgement the fact this thread is about a BMW is clouding, rather than mine. I doubt you'd have stood for such ridiculous logic as 'Because this car is a manual, it is not as good as a Granada and an embarrasment to its manufacturer' from me. You'd have been right in there having a good old pop.

.

All I will say is, your assumption I do it to defend people on their behalf is wrong, I'm not totally galant..

As for the rest, that's just standard rebuttle stuff from your end, I have no issues with you posting anything you want directed at me or otherwise, I am always happy to discuss/debate/defend as appropriate, just don't be shocked when I do.

As for the smileys, you are assuming far too much, I dont use smileys liberally, so when I do, it is for a reason, I'm usually chuckling light-heartedly to myself, it's a public forum, I think I'm allowed to poke a little bit of fun.. But alas, the internet is indeed serious, and it's all about one upman ship or some other cobblers isn't it?

I think the problem with the 318d is that it's compared to the more expensive cars in the 3-series range. If it were to be compared against, say, a Focus (not a bad car in itself), or an Astra, it'd be more than good enough.

When compared against a 330i/d, or whatever the naming convention is now, it's found wanting.
