i7 950 @ 5Ghz?

The motherboard will do the base clock that is needed, its just weather the memory and cpu can handle it really, and as you are using 12gb of memory, i would say it would be very very hard, really all depends on if u get a nice cpu, or not that is low volts, if so then don't see why not, but won't be easy thats for sure.

5ghz with HT on, will be very very tough, 5ghz with HT off, is a possiblity.

Get it under phase chage.

My 920 hits 4.92 for day to day use however this is with a 236bclk on a 21multi.. cant get any higher due to this. Those extra few multis would do wonders for me however a 980X is on the horizon for me so i dont think I am going to bother.

4.6ghz shouldnt be too much of a fantasy vision though.

Well all that is needed is a 225 baseclock, multi of 23 and that equates to roughly 5.1ghz. His mobo will do that baseclock comfortably, mine does and iv not even pushed it yet.

His main problem will be the 12gb of ram he is using, his cpu will have to have a very good memory controller on it, if he plans to use all.

If 920's can hit 4.6ghz+ under water, i can't see why a 950 can't get close to 5ghz, but it will take a lot of tweaking and a lot of paitence.

I'd say its pretty unrealistic without exotic cooling.

Well going by his sig, he either has or is going to be using custom water, that would handle it quite well, all depending on volts needed though.

Iv hit 4.6ghz with my 920 with HT On (under intels max volts too), and my temps where low to mid 80's which by all means where not bad, as some have those temps at 4ghz on air, but i prefer to have far lower temps.

It really all depends on the cpu really, if its a good clocker or a bad one, if he is unlucky and gets a high voltage one, then yeh its really a no go, so only time will tell.

But i would'nt say its impossible, its really all about the volts and heat really.

no
not without extreme cooling
highest i got a 950 to was 4715.26 mhz here

that was on water and not stable at all

the highest you are realistically going to get a bloomfield to 24/7 stable is 4.4ghz without going sub ambient

and that is if you have skills.

Ah so just like the 920's/930's, ahwell, still nice to see the price drop on them though.

So what do you think will be a nice very stable overclock on these using a very good air cooler like the NH-D14 ?

Id agree with rjk, but add that 12gb of ram and over 4ghz is a ******* nightmare as far as stability is concerned.

5ghz with a 950 is not going to happen at room temperatures. Im not aware of anyone managing it with 12gb of ram, even under phase. Id love a link to the latter if im wrong.

I wouldn't even try it buddy you will be risking your system burning up.

If you can do it without that happening I bow in honour of your greatness!

Good luck JP
