I've just published this article about the 1906 earthquake and thought it was pretty interesting, so I'll share it with you guys.

75% of the city was destroyed, 300,000 people out of 400,000 were left homeless, 225,000 were injured and 3,000 killed.

The old photographs of the devastated city and the fire raging are pretty amazing. It was the first natural disaster to be recorded on film to such a large extent.

I never knew it happened before I started the research!

More of the city was shafted by fire than the earthquake itself - apparently loads of people burned their houses down because then they'd be covered by insurance, an earthquake's an act of God.

A lot of San Francisco today is built upon the land fill after the 1906 earthquake. That place is a MAJOR disaster waiting to happen. Being that a lot is built on landfill, the ground will move a lot more during the next sesmic activity that is due any decade now.. Don't know how they sleep at night ?
