something that bugs me about the store, the value range, i thought value is used my most retailers / etraders to offer value to the customer ?
the 480 range of cards, the value 480 is the 3RD cheapest card.
To me this isnt value is it ?
surely a value 480 should be a good £20 - 30 less than any other card in the section.
anyone able to explain the reasoning behind this ?
maybe when the cheapest card is in the store ie, msi 480, this should be called the value msi card, and the pny or sparkles or whatever the value cards are,should be sold as what they are ( pny, sparkle, etc etc )?
 
They probably were the cheapest when they were released, but if they haven't sold i can't imagine OCUK wants to make a loss while the tech is still current.

Also by putting them at that price when they have a sale they can say "SAVE £200" etc.
 
they were cheaper, when the value were first available, the rest of them were going for £400+

its only in the last few weeks that the prices of the other cards have come down
 
All 480's cost more or less the same, whether its an Asus or as cheap as you like Sparkle or Inno3D card, there is hardly any difference in the cost.

So in order to give the OcUK card better value it comes with more games. 480 pricing has come down and now cards like MSI, Asus, OcUK, Gainward are all at new pricing level. :)

i understand what your saying, but would it not make more sense to sell the pny , inno3d ones like you do the asus and msi ones ? then depending on what you are able to sell the cheapest, call that the value ?
that way when people see a value asus 480 at a lower price than an inno3d they will think its more of a value deal ?
see what im saying ?

its like tescos value beans @ 59p v's heinz beans @ 31p,

Well it's more like Tescos value beans being at 59p and coming with a free copy of Batman, against Heinz beans at 31p not coming with a free copy of Batman.

Value doesn't necessarily mean the cheapest.

Nope as were not selling beans.

Were selling computer hardware that changes regular, then there is also many manufacturers making that same hardware all competing with each other.

As other have said OcUK cards were the cheapest 2 weeks ago, infact cheapest in the UK by a good amount. Then Gainward, MSI and finally Asus caught up, now all the cards are at the same price.

All the cards cost us the same, well within £2-£6 each other now so the OcUK brand is given extra value by adding extra games.

In this industry things change by the hours, wheras in the Tesco Value beans industry well I'd imagine prices stay the same/similar for long periods.

Fact is no one is holding a gun to your head saying buy the value card, what ocuk is doing is bringing you all the cards at the best possible prices and the GTX series has now hit a bottom in price, from this point onwards they will either run out and disappear or go back up in price.

tescos must have it all wrong then lol

the word value to me, and im sure a lot of other people means, value for money, getting the most out of your money,

like i said, maybe drop the "value" or use it on the lowest priced card, makes more sense.

That is what it means, as I said, it doesn't necessarily mean the cheapest. In this case your paying £10 more for something that is coming with an addtional feature that's worth more than £10. From that point of view it offers better value for money, but if you want the cheapest, just buy the cheapest, it's not that complicated surely?

Just because something is cheap doesn't mean it's value for money though does it.

If you buy some cheap food, and it tastes awful, and you have to bin it, is that good value for money? No. Same goes for PC components. You could buy a cheap graphics card, and it constantly breaks, which means it is not good value for money.
