For PlayTV owners

PlayTV takes only 1gb per hour for recordings.

Does the ps3 have a hard drive limit, will the Toshiba MK7559GSXP 750GB 2.5" even be recognized at this capacity?

I've not heard of a HDD limit but it's possible. I have seen people stick 660 and 750s in so they should be fine. I am sure I saw someone with a 1TB drive in a PS3 too. No-one knows any specifics about the File system they use but it seems it has support for large drives, so I'd say you should be safe.

Personally, I wouldn't advocate huge drives in the PS3. Simply because that's a whole lot of data to lose if your PS3 busts - when you insert a HDD into a different PS3, it's formatted. ;) If you want to keep stuff, copy it to an external USB HDD instead.

Thats partially incorrect - the BBCs quality/compression usually means its more like 1.6-1.8Gb per hour...

If its taller than 9.5mm IIRC then it wont fit, so that one should be fine - dont think theres too much information regards the PS3s file system and how large a volume/HDD can be - Id be surprised if it doesnt support 48bit LBA though...

ps3ud0

your right :) it's channel dependent on the size of the file, but most of my programs are no more than 1gb-1.2gb in size per hour. bbc and channel 4 seem to be around 0.8 for 30min.

PlayTV records the raw streams so it depends on what the channel's bitrate is. BBC use highest bitrates of all, I think.

that could explain why i though one recording had 2gigs under it. one thing i love is the fast forwarding, its so responsive unlike pvrs and Dvd recorders.

i think your safe, as it just says your using play tv so you can watch your soft porn without worry.
