Falken ZE912 or Kumho KU31

Yes the Eagle F1 GS-D3 is a great summer performance tyre and you pay for all that development work, although not all Eagle F1's are as good as each other in the dry right?

Dry performance has increased with each new generation of the Eagle F1, as you'd expect.

Good Year F1 All Season for example surpasses the F1 GS-D3 in certain conditions right? So it is impossible the 912 does the same compared to the 452 right? No Wrong!

They don't even sell the All Season over here do they? It's main benefit over the GS-D3 is in stuff like snow where the GS-D3's tread pattern and compound renders them worse than useless rather than just 'bad'. In non wintery conditions, the F1 GS-D3 is just.. a better tyre, wet or dry.

So yea, its entirely possible the same difference exists between 912 and 452 :D

The F1 GS-D3 is a great grippy tyre, shame they don't make it in 255/35/18 though

They used to, its an old tyre now, it's simply been replaced by a newer, better version of the Eagle F1 called the Assymetric. GS-D3 is now only available in sizes where they dont produce an Assymetric.

The thing I fail to understand is why you find it so dificult to admit that the 912 could be better than the 452 in some circumstances

Because generally speaking, it isn't. There might be isolated cases where it is, perhaps snow, I dunno, but not generally.

you defy all logic making a claim otherwise, however, it is clearly a point you need to make even though you can back it up with no personal experience.

Whereas obviously you've driven a 330i on 912's over 12 months then 452's over 12 months... oh wait no, you've got similar comparable experience then :p

Well I am a lot closer to experienced than you as I have at least driven cars on both tyres (and a hell of a lot more tyres) in many conditions. You have all your experience sat behind a monitor :p

PS. I am actually gonna remove the almost brand new tyres off my E36 and replace them with 912's, that is how bad the tyres on my car are!

Well then its a shame Falkens marketing department are not as switched on as you, because they really are not doing a very good job of showing off the 912's hidden stunning wet weather ability.

Guess there is no point carrying on with this :)

At the expense of admitting an epic fail on my part, I currently own a set of 18 inch BMW wheels with 912s and an 18 inch set of BMW wheels with 452s - both have been used on my e46 and from new (Hovis next to wheels can be provided). The 452 is a better tyre, full stop, although I am yet to compare how long they last.

EDIT: They are both good tyres though in my opinion, certainly comparable to the Pilot Sports (not PS2s) I had previously, although they had done a fair few miles.

How much you want for the 18's with 912's on :D

I have 912s fitted to my Fiesta, they are the cheapskate ones :D

However far from ditch finders and about the best I could do given the limited choice I had.

Wicksta has proved me right! 912's are cheapskate Falkens, the real mans Falkens are the 452's ;)

He also said both the 912's and 452's were better than Pilot Sports... cough premium :D

No I didn't, I said they were comparable. The (now superceeded) Pilot Sport 1s were half worn and came with the car so I have no idea of their history.

The 912 is inferior in every way - but lasts longer and costs less. Thats its point.

It's a touring/comfort tyre, it's quieter, less harsh (a useful attribute with BMWs suspension) and longer lasting. Wet grip is supposed to be very similar, dry grip a bit down on the 452.

Tyres are always a compromise (yes, even Goodyear F1s), you trade one parameter for another.

I put some 912's on a Mondeo just prior to the big feeze last year and I couldn't get up my drive in the snow with them. The previous time we had similar snow the car had Goodyear NCT5's and didn't have a problem then. The 912's generally felt twitchy oin icy roads, more than the Goodyears.
