Top 5 Things that annoy you about Games/developers Today?

  1. Unskippable cutscenes - particularly when said cutscenes feature some particularly crap acting which you have to endure for the eleventy-somethingth time
  2. Weapon DLC - This should have been in the game from the start and new skin packs for weapons just makes the company look cheap
  3. Games for Windows Live - All the money of Microsoft combined with a massive knowledge base and this is the best you can come up with?
  4. Install limits - It only infuriates the paying customer since no pirate has to put up with this crap
  5. Proprietary crap like PhysX
  6. Quick time events - Go away and die quick time events
  7. Unpausable cutscenes - I've just reached a major juncture in the story and the doorbell rings, I now only have two options, replay the section again or look it up with poor resolution on youtube (or not answer the door :D)

are you sure? I mean I thought that it would be like 2k sell the licences to Valve and then they charge what they want on steam?

Stelly

I'm sure, that's why Activision games are consistently more expensive on Steam than the rest of Steam Games, and that's why they stay at the higher price for a long time. They set the prices, Steam just takes their cut.

The Michael Bay-ification of games. It started a couple of years ago with games like Gears of War and CoD, and now "look at how much cool **** is happening!" is a selling point. Bulletstorm looks like one of the most boring shooters in years, and it'll sell millions of copies. I just don't get it.

And poor PC ports, definitely. FOV and mouse acceleration are always issues. For some reason, mouse sensitivity has also turned into an issue lately, with games only offering like 3-5 different sensitivity settings, none of which are anywhere close to what I want. Just give me a damn number to tweak!

ive only ever seen that in one game Red Dead Redemption it was amazing i really needed a pee and thought oh sod it i pressed pause to skip it and it paused i was like :eek::eek::eek::eek: wow!

was amazing...

My biggest problem is big developers not taking risks. Far too many generic, safe-bet investments. I want millions to be spent on something crazy.

Online everything. What's wrong with just making a good single player game without wasting development time on multiplayer features that end up being pap anyway?

Not in any particular order

1. Low FOV, you can make the graphics as fancy as you like, but its not going to look real when trees pop into view suddenly in the distance

2. Not enough flexibility in the graphics menu, not so much of a problem now as my machine handles max, but in the past I like to turn down grass textures and stuff in oblivion so I get other textures

3. Why oh why don't stratagy games zoom out more like they do in sup com. Its the way forward in control, it can't be THAT hard to implement either...

4. Half asses console ports

5. Lack of variety, wheres my classic hack and slash RPGs? Why does everyone in future earth have an american accent? Too many shooters in the market :( atleast they have moved away from world wars though

This is the publishers fault. If a game idea is too out of line, publishers aren't willing to risk fronting the cash. Even the guy who made Deus Ex got told repeatedly to "Just go make a shooter"

I find games in general are going down hill these days i cant really remember the last time i played a game that had the wow factor like say ocarina of time for example.

I agree!!. I find that MegaDrive/Snes had the best variety. Those classic games were so cool and I never got bored of them. They had such a varied gameplay and so many titles that it provided such a wonderful gaming experience. Up till and including PS2, majority of games have been wonderful.

But I feel with PS3, sure you get very good graphics but they all seem to be FPS involving alien/zombies in a very dark atmosphere and this puts me off. There is hardly any variety in todays games.

I don't mind DLc if it's just a disc less replacement of expansion packs,.

it only annoys me when it was clearly cut out of the original game to make a dlc.

I thought this would be a good thread to make as each person list would be different & hopefully developers read it and fix the things they need to :)

my list:
1. Games that requires Disc to be in the Drive
2. Developers that do more work on Graphics Than Story
3. Games that are overpriced
4. Developers that drop support for there games after 2 months
5. cut the story short so they can get more from DLC

whats your five?:D

tbh, all 5 (with the possible exception to point 2) are usually nothing to do with the developers, so its unlikly its something the devlopers would change :P

pricing, release, copy protection, etc, are all done by the Publisher.
The publisher might also be the one that asks for better graphics.

The main problem with the graphics in games is simple, Good Graphics sell to the masses. The majority of ppl who buy the game, generally do so simply from the box, which shows off the graphics of the game.

Only one thing i would want: a video game industry ombudsman.

imo its shocking what publishers get away with nowadays.

He is right Valve doesn't set the price on Steam but the publishers do.

Anyway my list:

  1. Achievements in single player mode (what's the point??)
  2. Narrow FOV+mouse acc. - make me want to kill myself
  3. Noob friendly or noobified FPS games (that includes COD4 and BC2 too)
  4. Lack of original titles

That's called "View/Draw Distance" not Field of View.

It is the publishers and retailers. Steam have no say. They get round these problems with weekend type sales.

DRM would be my main problem, followed by features enabled on only one brand of hardware.

Games that seem to be made for only the most expensive hardware in mind. It's still pretty ridiculous to me that BC2 runs worse than Crysis and doesn't even look anywhere near as good. It's why I just bought the console versions instead.

This probably overlaps a little with games that are poorly coded and thus doesn't run efficiently.

1. Games that are 100% made for consoles and just dragged onto PC with a complete lack of thought or effort.

2. Games that look, and feel exactly the same as the previous one but has a few minor changes that somehow justifies the new game for most people (cod4 -> codmw2)

3. Online games that are luck based and ''noob friendly'', so that it is practically impossible for the more skilled players to actually stand out from the crowd. E.g. Removing the 'lean' on the most recent cod.

4. Developers that half arse a game, then release a new game which is what the original should have been. (L4D -> L4D2)

5. Developers who think they are in control of the market and can make what they want, not what the customer wants. And more so, the customers who go out and purchase the game anyway, despite being annoyed by the changes that have been made.
