hi all,
i basically want to hav a new rig by the time "Medal of Honor" comes out on October 12th, i think its going to be slightly more demanding of juice than "Bad Company 2" and i want to be able to run it on the highest detail with ease. will this rig do the job with extra to spare? also is everything ive listed compatible? wots listed is already pushing my budget so unless its changing sumthing to save a few £'s i cant go any more. without the case its costing £767.43 all frm OcUK

- Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 DDR3 Motherboard
- Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Bloomfield)
- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 460 OC 1024MB GDDR5
- Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 12800C8 1600MHz Triple channel
- Samsung EcoGreen F2 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache
- Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler
- Thermaltake Tsunami Dream VA3000BWA Case (already own)

can you guys tell me how much Watt the PSU has to be to run this? theres a chance i could use my current psu but havent got round to seeing how much it is.

i came up with this rig after reading you guys views and recomendations around the OcUK forums, so you guys have contributed to my build ;)

oh! i dont know how to overclock yet, but im going to learn. Does this setup hav good overclocking potential?

Thanks.

Jake :)

thanks for fast reply;)

theres a good chance my current PSU is 750w because i sorta remember deciding that i wanted extra power for this current rig. but if its only 600w il buy a new 750w like u say.

thanks for that:D

For your budget, I would drop down to an i5 and push to a GTX 470/480.

This is probably a better idea. Or even a X4 Phenom.

Also, is the F2 EcoGreen to be your only drive? I'd recommend getting something faster for installing games etc on, the F2 might be a bit slow.

What do you save by doing that?

The saving are insignificant next to the likelyhood of being stuck with a dead socket... At least with the i7 he'll have the chance of upgrading to a gulftown as soon as they become affordable.

But if you're simply gaming then take the i5

Well spotted

The Samsung F3 hard drive are ment to be good, and it'll be worth the extra +£4 or so.

Remember if you do decide to go for the i5 and get a more powerful graphics card, you'll need to change to a 1156 socket motherboard and DDR3 Dual channel memory, this will reduce the cost by a fair bit.

Also as someone has mentioned have you considered the more bang for buck processors AMD?

MOH, in my opinion, is less demanding than BC2.

My rig has consistently got more FPS during the MOH BETA, than BC2.

Plus, it will be a waste blowing several hundred pounds for one game.

Wait till BF3. ;)

Yup. If he's just gaming, an i5 760 with better graphics would give better performance. By the time the cpu needs upgrading both sockets will probably be obsolete anyway.

At current prices a 955/965BE and an i5 750/760 would end up around the same price, and the i5 comes out on top in gaming benchmarks when both overclocked (and it's practically a crime not to) to around 3.8 for the 955/965 and 4.0 for the i5.

I'd go for an i5, a GTX470 and a SSD, and then fill in the gaps really.

Edit:

This really, slightly over your suggestion, but a better balanced system:

Oh, and you get Mafia 2...

You can save money on the motherboard, as that one is SLI-ready, so you could get a ~£80 motherboard instead.

fellas im blown away by your responces. youve replyed with other options and uve increased my market place knowledge lol, thanks a lot ;)

im currently on AMD, and with all the talk about intel these days i was brainwashed into thinking that was my next path. theres no doubt that the high end intel chips r nasa like, but maybe its a step to eairly for me as im not an overclocker (yet)

the "bang for buck" term made me laff out loud:D and it forced me to look at the high end AMD and tbh this cpu caught my eye

AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1090T Black Edition 3.20GHz

future proofing my next rig for purely gaming is wot i want to do, and based on a few replys in this thread and the reviews by OcUK customers i think this is the chip i want to build my rig around.

am i talking sense? wot u guys think about the u-turn lol?

thanks:)

oh i noticed Marvin included an SSD. ive no clue wot these are. for performanc should i defo include 1 in my build.

no point getting the 1090T just for gaming, a decent quad will future proof you enough.

In my opinion no point in getting a SSD, unless you have money to burn, get a fast "normal" harddrive for 1/4 of the price with 5x as much space.

and i think ill take this board to go with it

Asus Crosshair IV Formula AMD 890FX (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard

without overclocking would this board and the AMD Phenom II X6 Black straight out of the box, run any game i thru at it on full settings?
with a gfx card to back it up ofcourse :)

thanks Sayso!

youre right because im a dual core now and the only thing thats letting me down with bad company 2 at the moment is the GPU. so ive looked at the Quads and iv picked this 1

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.40GHz

lol im all over the show here theres so much to get your head round:D

and for the SSD issue i guess i could get 1 with the money saved from dropping down to the Quad:)

may the build continue haha

An SSD is the single best upgrade you can do for your system - no lie. Everything is sooo much faster...

If it's just for gaming, the i5 750/760 would be a bit quicker...

They also overclock better than the 955 or 965.

Personally i don't really think you should start considering an SSD until your budget starts going over £1k. Then again my OS's run almost entirely in RAM space so i've barely noticed a difference between a Raptor and a PII era IDE drive.

i guess im going to have to push my budget then :(

ok build me a rig for futureproof extreme gaming on max settings 24/7

you have £1000 but you must include:

- BeQuiet Dark Power Pro P8 750W Modular Power Supply
- Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler
- Intel X25-V Value 40GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive
- Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache

i already have a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream Case so hopefully its up to the job, ive asked and a coupel of guys have said it would be fine to house new hardware but if any1 would like to also have a look and reasure me that would be great. heres a link to the case

if you see ppl posting intel builds and you know your stuff about amd please please post an amd build as i would like ppl to discuss thm head to head.

thanks guys cant wait for your proposed rigs;)
