Is Starcraft 2 really worth it's money?

Ok opinions taken
I take that back

I play mostly RPG/MMOPRGs anyways

Still I havent come to a conclusion yet if it's worth it or not =/

If you play single player, then yes. The campaign has a lot more content, structure and polish than any other RTS i've played. By a wide margin too...

I can't speak to multiplayer though.

don't get me wrong, the game is good over-all but it does suffer from the same thing that all games suffer from, multiplayer gets boring very very quickly, lot of the time when you play other people online in 1 vs. 1 or 2 vs. 2 its like the same ten games you've previously played, nothing really changes. they always send a scout to check you out, then they always sent marines/zealots/zergling and it follows the same dare i say 'predictable' path from there on. not saying its remotely limited to just starcraft II, but i feel bigger scale games like supreme commander where just crossing the map can take quite a while the problem is reduced somewhat. but even supreme commander gets predictable and all the 'professional' players follow the same sort of build orders, units, attack tactics, etc. so to be honest unless your playing with people you know, who won't take things too seriously then RTS games are pretty **** online. also don't bother anyone saying this is a 'troll' post or anything ridiculous, because i do play and enjoy starcraft II, its just a general observation i have made whilst playing this and many other RTS games throughout the years. :) still worth getting mind!

shush you! I know who you are now haha
u keep nagging me to get it. Next time u mention it at work stale bread u.

Well there is u and ryan to play with if i do get it, probably the 1 and only reason to get it at the minute.

I refuse to give Blizzard my money (aka Activision), so for me the answer would be no.

meeh, well if you play MP with your friends and enjoy it, then it's worth getting. Single player campaign is a lot of fun, and team matches can be great fun as well (if it doesnt boil down to a 2 minute rushfest). If you just didnt have any fun at all though in the trial, and arent interested in SP, then fair enough, don't bother until it's like..a tenner, and play a game you'd enjoy in the meantime :)

gonna have to disagree there, its not so much skill as it is pace. the best players are the fast players, but they certainly aren't brilliant tactical thinkers, they just aim to rush production the quickest. whoever makes the most basic units first usually wins. ;)

You're wrong. An accurate way to phrase it would be the best players tend to be faster. Being fast doesn't make you good in the slightest, you still have to have a very in depth knowledge of the game, the maps, the match ups, just have played so many times that you can time the production of a single marine to the mineral 5 minutes into the game.

APM is largely meaningless as a basis of comparison between players as it doesn't actually tell you anything about how they're playing, or how many of those individual actions were actually meaningful.

The rushing production thing doesn't make sense; but you basically produce to the limits of your economy and when possible expand to boost your economy (and inturn production).

The last statement about whoever gets a unit out first winning, I don't even know what to do with.

Seriously though, since SC2 has been released there has been a deluge of negative opinions given that you can immediately from just glancing over someones post see they have zero understanding of the most basic principles of the particular game or even the genre. If you're ignorant of something, why choose to go out of your way to pollute other people genuinely wanting to inquire upon a subject with your nonsense, why not just stfu?

Speak for yourself, I've not been rushed much at all.

Sounds like you envy the professional players for some reason, hey look at me I'm just as good as them, this all they do, no skill, honest!

I've wanted to get in to RTSs for years, but I could never find the right game. Starcraft 2 is the most fun I've had with an RTS game ever (no kidding!) and I haven't even touched the MP yet. I've watched a lot of pro games online though, but the fact I've played an RTS for more than a few hours says something for me at least!

I tried the trial and it's my worst game of 2010 thus far.

It reminds me of C & C 1 in the 90's... Why anyone would spend £35 on this when C & C 1 is now shareware is beyond me.

The single player is brilliant. But I found the online to be a bit boring. Coming from playing games like Age of Empires 3 and Sins of a Solar Empire online, I find the multiplayer in this game a bit lacking. In my opinion, not enough variety of resources, not enough units and if your not ready and don't rush or prepare for a rush the game is over in 2-3 minutes.

Even if you manage to get the game to lasts 20-30 minutes, the tech trees are limited. Got bored very quick.

But the single player is awesome though ;)

Gave my copy away to a friend. May borrow and play single player again sometime down the line on Hard.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry...

It's your opinion I guess.

Yeah thats what I mean, I like most level to last longer than 20-30mins maybe an hr or 2 unless you get a timer like in the C&C games.

I played all the C&C and Age of Empire games and they were brilliant to me, had a nice sized tech tree including upgrades.
Take Age of Empires for example, you could also do market trades to neutral/allies ingame which gave that game abit of reality.

Now ofcourse SC2 isn't based on anything thats happened in real life, but I'm just looking for a RTS that is recent/nearly brand new that offers some sort of gameplay like Age or Empires.

I know I talk a lot about Age of Empires and seem to like it but it's fairly old.
I'de like something recent.

Still tho, making I'm taking peoples opinions.
I wouldnt have this problem is I see it for £20 (Including w/e discount or pre-owned) lol I'de grab it without thinking.

I am only interested in the single playe as i hate RTS games online. For that reason i shall wait a few months until it is nearer £15 - £20.

I don't think so, especially not at the R.R.P. of £45... The campaign, although sometimes varied, is too short and fairly easy, even on the hard difficulty level. I'm also still really miffed about the missing Protoss\Zerg campaigns - the story never really gets started as a result and I'm loathed to have to pay extra for them. Everyone seems to have let Blizzard get away with this, so I hope it doesn't inspire other developers to follow suite.

The multiplayer is fun, but to me it's just Starcraft with a few new units and a new lick of paint. Certainly it's a regressive step from Warcraft 3 (which had more 4 races and hero units).

Despite the criticisms, I still enjoyed it, but I wonder how much of that was influenced by my nostalgia for the first game.

Ive been considering getting this game so instead of making my own thread i'll ask in here.

I dont like Single player and i dont really like the real game. By that i mean regular games.

Are there custom games? WC3 i played so much but never SP or regular matchs, Only ever custom games. So i wondered is SC2 going to have a lot of them? I loved the variety from tower defense to rpg to mazes etc. Does\will SC2 have the same depth of custom maps?
