Graphics card a 480 would be good to upgrade to.

Even though you are saying your not going to overclock your i7 920 it would help by upping the clock a bit. Im guessing your not overclocking because of the amount of heat it will produce? Just upping the clock to 3.6GHz will give you higher frame rates and heat only starts to increase dramatically once you start going 3.8GHz+.

it was pre-clocked by OCUK to 3.6Ghz but after a while kept getting BSOD. could be assed any more so reset to default.

i don't want to OC because id rather not have aggro of it maybe failing again. so rather it lovely and stable :)

If the overclock isnt stable you should have contacted OCUK and they would have sorted it for you.

i did they said they would help they suggested it was the memory as they done the intel test on the oc. however i couldn't be bothered 10 bsod a day just annoyed me. its probably a easy fix, but least i dont have to worry about it any more. :)

As has been mentioned - for playing games at those resolutions it wil be your graphics cards causing the bottleneck. However, I wouldn't worry too much - in almost all games thsis bottleneck should occur at some high framerates and your gaming enjoyment will not be affected. Are you finding it plays games OK?

As for the overclock, could you go into the BIOS, press F12 and select the OCUK overclock. If you tell us what it is set to, we can tell you what to change it to and have you up and running in a few minutes. 3.6GHz is really simple to achieve with these i7 chips.

An unclocked i7 :O pity :(

Like everyone is telling you its the CPU thats the bottleneck slightly.
The 285's are fine for DX10 but there not brilliant. If you have the need get the 480 or even SLI but to spend £600+ on Graphics card is abit of a waste if the CPU is running @ 2.9Ghz
