KEEP MY ATI4870 OR BUY A GTX470-??

Hi, kmufc77, thanks very much for your first link, an ATI 4870 1gb for £86 inc VAT.
Now you have really got me thinking. It's a Grade A Refurb. No biggie, just as good as new.I've had refurb parts before and all ran great.
oh man what to do, what to do?

Get a 4870 dude and have Xfire for under £100 !

Great performance for under £100 you cant wrong!

Will one 4870 1GB & one 4890 1GB work happily together in crossfire? Or are there any gremlins I should know about?
Thanks

I believe you can but there may be issues still, as in a ideal world you want the same model cards for Xfire,i would just get another 4870 complete bargain at that price

Ive had xfire 4870 in the past very good setup

More importantly what resolution do you game at?

What do you pro,s think of this:
"XFX ATI Radeon HD 5830 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card" at £150.
I have 2 Pc,s one for gaming the i7-920 and an intel duo7300 for internet, email etc.
I could put my 4870 into the core duo 7300 case and use the XFX ATI 5830 in the 920 gaimg pc and wait to see how the 6*** ATi series & any new Nvidia cards turn out in 6 months.
What do you think?
5830 is only £60 more than the refurb 4870 at £87.
But then again the ATi 5850 at £193 is only £43 more than the ati 5830!, but if I pay £193 I may aswell pay the extra £30 and get a GTX470.
I can see I've got some thinking & forum reading still to go.

The 5830 is a very poor card, in terms of price to performance.

Go for either a 5850, or the GTX470. If you decide to upgrade at all that is.

Hi Kmufc77, I have a Hanns-G 26inch monitor ( It's been the best buy I've ever made) and play games at it top res of 1920 x 1080. At least that is what it is set at. I can play Napoleon at that res with my single 4870, 1GB.

oops, Corrected it now, thanks for pointing that out to me.
Ok so avoid the 5830. Got that.
So I'm back to my original dilemma. I'm kind of leaning towards getting the refurb 4870 1GB you gave the link to Kmfc77, it could be a good move.
When I finally plonk I'll comment and let you all know what I bought, I,m sure you all interested, lol.
Thanks again for every one's help & knowledge, it's helped me sail between the rocks. Cheers.

If you can live without dx11 then go with 4870 crossfire and wait for the 28mn cards to come out next year some time.

If you need dx11 then wait on the ati 6 series and then decide.

The 5830 would be a bad choice for you.

I don't think 5830 are bad on the old price/performance scale when you can pick them up £130 give or take. Cheaper than some 5770 cards.

Always around this time of year. I would wait.

Wait for what a maybe card that might be released when?

2-3-4 months time nobody knows?

When the 6 series are released they certainty wont be £250 which is the price the OP is looking at if he decides to buy a GTX 470

*Direct X 11 doesn't bother me too much right now.* Napoleon, Crysis, X3 Terran Conflict look great to me in Direct X10.
I am seriously looking at the Gainward £86 refurb 4870 1GB to Xfire with my XFX 4870 1GB, even thou they are different makes I hope they would work happily in Xfire?
Thanks

They will work fine, different manufactures of cards does not matter in the slightness, just make sure you get the same amount of Video ram on each card

Like a lot of ppl have said, hold out for a few more months and see if the refresh and ati's 6series are anygood. I will gurantee you if you purchase now you'll just end up regretting it if the new cards are a real treat. I would have waited a few months ago before I made my purchase if I knew the refresh was going to be this soon!

Hold out for a few months. The 5 series didn't have any competition until early this year, and even then no serious competition until April-May which kept the prices high.
However, with Nvidia becoming competitive again, in order to sell the 6 series to any other than the early adopters ATI are going to have to keep the prices civilised.
