im going to do an AMD build.

to have x2 ATi GPUs you need ATi crossfire yes? and to have x2 nvidia GPUs you need SLi?

am i right in saying you cant put x2 nvidia GPUs using crossfire, you can only do it if your AM3 board has SLi? so 1 is for 1 and the other is for the other lol u cant mix and match.

also can any1 recomend an AM3 board with SLi and usb3.0 sata6 and around £130

if the motherboard has a 790GX or FX chipset, or 890GX or FX chipset it can do crossfire correctly.

all other amd chipsets claim crossfire support are bodged, and only run the second card at a much slower speed.

sli is not possible on a amd chipset.

for sli you need a nforce chipset motherboard, but these are discontinued as nvidia pulled out of the chipset market.

its still possible to find some new nforce boards still for sale.

crossfire is not possible on a nvidia chipset.

Unfortunately the only AM3 board that do SLI use Nvidia chipsets. The most recent example is the 980a SLI. However, this doesn't have SATA 6G or USB3 and doesn't overclock as well as recent AMD chipset boards.

If you really want SLI then I strongly suggest you go for an Intel system (ideally X58 as it uses x16x16 PCIe, but the P55 boards with x8x8 PCIe are good too).

Otherwise, switch to AMD GPUs and use a board that supports CrossfireX and has at least x8x8 PCIe graphics ports.

i was going ati at start but after reading around the forums and picking up grumbles about driver problems this has put me off a bit.

i dunno wot to do now :(

Have you bought the CPU or motherboard yet? If not and you are set on going for Nvidia graphics then I strongly suggest you go for an Intel CPU/mobo. If you give us a budget we can recommend you something that will fit your needs (presumably gaming).

This is a touch over budget, but IMHO its worth the extra as you can fit in an X58/i7 platform in + a GTX 460 GPU.

I changed the PSU, as the Antec is more than sufficient and is £30 cheaper.

Do you need an OS included in the budget?

*sigh*

Mate = torrent

Sort out = Illegal Copy

Illegal Copy = Wasted time

I really hope I'm wrong but just buy a genuine copy, it will make things a lot easier. No point dropping a grand on a build to run a bodged OS on it.

Thats what i dont get, people spend £1000 on a pc and get an illegal copy of windows.
