I own a garage in a block which I don't use very often tbh. I noticed today that some scrote has busted the lock in  Fortunately don't keep anything in there apart from total junk which the scrotes elected not to steal so it's just the damage to the door that needs sorting.

I'm hoping that my home insurance will cover the repair. Tbh the best case is that I get a new garage door because the current one is in a bit of a state. If the insurance doesn't cover it I'm guessing it'll cost the best part of a grand for a new one to be fitted? Anyone know if there's anything I need to get wrt better security. I'm guessing there's a limit to how secure garages in blocks can be :(

Have you reported it to the cops ?

While there might not be anything forensically, it might be a small part in a bigger picture and a fair bet that is isn't the only garage that has been screwed.

Is it a flip garage door ?

Not yet - waiting for my sis to confirm that none of her stuff that was stored there is missing. Definitely will do though.

Yeah it's a flip garage door, spoke to one of the neighbours who said that they'd heard other garages had been broken into also but theirs (next to mine) was OK.

i feel sorry for you.
this happened to me before a few years ago.
i have a lift up type garage that i store tools into, in a dodgy area.
my mate who fits garage doors reinforced it for me.

i will try to describe what he done.

what he done was

he got 2 90 degrees pieces of square steel about 1/2" thick and 2 inches each way.
he welded a square plate to one end and drilled 4 holes through it.
then he screwed these to the floor, about 6" in from the frame, behind the door.

he then cut a small square in front of these, in the door.
then he cut another steel plate and cut a small square in this.

then he riveted these plates over the cuts in the door (to reinforce the door around the hole)
he then drilled a hole horizontaly through the end of the 90 degrees steel that was sticking out through the door.
then he gave me two locks, one of these http://www.locknet.com.cn/images/u/1821.gif
these locks slide through the drilled hole in steel.
he also got a scaffold pole about 2.5m and then he wedged these inside the garage against the frame each side.

there was a couple of attempts at first , but no one got through, now they dont bother

Sorry to hear that happened.

The garages in my block have a pair of bolt type locks down at the bottom of the door that go into the frame and you put a padlock on each one. They are a bit wimpy so I went to the local locksmith shop and bought the biggest ones they had and a pair of very substantial padlocks, different on both sides. In 5 years mine is the (fingers crossed) the only one that hasn't been broken into.

When choosing this kit pick something that you think might cause you some serious grief if you ever lose your keys! It's a major worry of mine but I know my belongings are safe :D
