I have been looking at ordering a new laptop.

I am looking for a powerful Laptop, maybe i5 or i7. 15.6"

Am i correct saying Dell are still pretty much one of the best to get???

thanks

For business machines (Latitude) they are a safe bet, but their consumer models are much more variable. Which ranges are you looking at?

He ain't kidding. I know two people who got Dell Inspiron's at the beginning of their first year of university, and by the end of it they both had problems.

On the other hand, I have an old Dell Latitude D600 lying around somewhere which - after much looking after - still works just fine (last I checked).

Ive said this in other threads, but ive never had any problems with Dell Laptops in numerous cases. We have had hundreds if not thousands go through our Dept in work (Latitudes) and rarely see a problem, and if there is a problem its more down to people just being stupid and breaking them by not being careful.

Also have 2 Inspiron's at home both a few years old now and both run and look like new. As long as you don't drop and throw them about they work a treat.

I would imagine these young people ;) in Uni must be treating them like crap to be wrecked in a year.

A lot of the times the latitudes and inspirons will use the same components anyway, you will find that the inspirons fail more often because home users dont look after their laptops as well as business users.

For instance, most if not all home users sit with their laptop on a bed, cushion or on their knee which is a major no no when it comes to a laptop however most business laptops will spend most of their time sat on a desk.
