Funny upgrade prices

10gb? Thi iPhone tariffs are 1gb.
Also yes, best way is to get a sim free on, it works out cheaper in the log run if you really are a high usage user

I meant on my tariff which is 10 Gb, if I were to have gotten it as an upgrade or sim free :p. Thats too good to be true.

I wouldnt ever buy one on the tariffs they come with. They are far too expensive sim free anyway, I'll just have to make do with my X10 Mini Pro and an 8 Gb memory card.

They give you loads of texts and minutes, when what you really want on an I Phone 4 is data.

When you look at the cost comparison of sim free v the tariffs over 24 months, sim free works out very cheap :p

3 iphone tariffs are cheaper than the sim free iPhones + something like o2 ?15 simplicity, last time I checked.

I think the ?180 desire would be better (more cost effective) than a sim free iPhone 4. They're just too similar unless your desperate for extra battery life. Web browsing is better too (the forward, back, bookmark buttons + status bar take up too much screen space for me)

Unless your tethering/its your main connection 1gb is more than enough on a top end slate, that's 10 iplayer/4od programs + normal browsing.
(However now android has flash 500mb is looking a little low for me)

Those are ridiculous prices. I'm on a lower tarrif than you (Flext 30 with £5 discount) and my upgrades are much cheaper than yours.
When I come to upgrading I plan on haggling for either a much reduced contract as I'll keep my phone or a combination of same contract and free phone.

Hold on, you said your 50% off was a staff discount, not detentions discount. How come it was previously removed? The only time I've known of them removing when upgrading was on the iphone4 for first week or 2 of release only.

Thats what I didnt get. I opened the advantage plan while working at Asda as it was in my benefits book on an old tariff called relax 50, which was reduced to £25 pm. Later I realised I wanted internet on it, so added Web n Walk on top making it far more expensive. When I did my first upgrade I asked if there were any cheaper internet + modem use tariffs I could change to, and they advised me to get Flext 35 + Web n Walk max which would get everything reduced by 50%. I would imagine that the tariff change messed it up. Customer Service and Upgrades didnt know why, and both told me I could keep the discount, but it got removed and couldnt be put back on as Advantage Plans can only be taken when you open the account, and the advantage plan people said there was nothing they could do to reapply it other than returning the phone and rolling back the upgrade. I went .

So the person that did my first upgrade offered a 50% reduction through retentions instead, and put a note on saying it was to remain until I choose to cancel the contract (advantage plan was lifetime, even after you left the company you got it from), but everytime I upgrade I need to go through explaining it all over again, and this time they had to look back to when I opened the account to check that I were initially on advantage plan. I got another note put on there again, but those seem to be completely useless as they couldnt find the first one that should have been on there.

It was meant to have been a 50% reduction for the life of the contract, and retentions are honoring this since it was removed and have lots of these notes placed on my account saying I'm allowed to keep the reduction until I choose to end the contract, but they could refuse to apply it on any future upgrade if the person doing the upgrade doesnt know anything about it. Ive sent in lots of complaints about it by phone call, email, and on the T Mob forum, they keep on telling me that they will continue to honor it, but everytime I upgrade they never know if I'm allowed to keep it or not and it seems like they are trying to cancel it, so it gets annoying at each upgrade.

He did mention MMO's earlier on i guess he is tethering.

Yea, I'm connected to it right now :). Its not reliable enough to start time consuming quests / missions in MMOs though, because it has a nasty habit of losing 3G signal and then I need to disconnect, rescan for 3G network, and reconnect :(. But its great for something like random arenas guild wars or street fighter 4. Its not so fun in raids - 'Oh, I need to reconnect my internet, its lagging, brb' :(.

The 3G signal reliability is far too random. On some days I never lose signal, then on others it drops every 5 minutes. Right now Ive had solid signal for 2 hours :)

Somehow my upgrade prices are still available online, and they got reduced:

Thats more like it! Hmmm, think I might actually ring them up and ask about the HTC Desire, see if I can change to that but for less maybe :p

Oh, the Desire would take even longer to get, they said they've been having customers waiting since June to get one and its still not in stock, and it could take several months, whereas they get the mini in stock every week.

:(

Feel free to get the Mini, but please make no mistake, its utter rubbish compared to the Desire.

I know :p

Would have definately gotten the desire if they had stock or a shorter waiting time, but they said 2-3 months would be the least it would take.

I dont think that the bottom three phones would be free on £30 a month, but just about everything else on that list should be.

Last time I looked (beginning of July) the bottom 3 were available free on 18 month £25 a month tariffs (600mins/texts and 3GB of Data)...

Didn't used to, retentions always did better deals than I could get as new. Changed in the last year or so though. :(

It changed a long time ago, particularly if you were on a tariff that they no longer wanted you to be on like mine, then they would try to rip you off.

Some still do, it really depends on your usage and who you are/what you pay, the company and how long you have been with them.

My uncle has been with Orange for the past 8 or so years, he has some absolutely crazy cheap deals and upgrades etc.

Its different for everyone, but if you are trying to upgrade a contract and you can get it cheaper elsewhere, then do so.

retentions isnt upgrades though!!
retentions have more scope to work with.

But you're an idiot if you don't go straight to retentions, or at least see what they have. Going to retentions doesn't mean you have to cancel or accept a deal.

As for the lack of good deals O2 have taken a turn for the worst in the last year or so, used to get great deals with them up until this time where they wouldn't budge, and as mentioned that means my custom goes bye bye.

straight to? but thats just a pain. check the upgrades first, chances are you will get what you want. only need to leave/pretend to if you are not happy with what is on offer.
besides, i really wouldnt want 'retention offer accepted' on my account every year! at some point someone will say 'just go!'.

Yet your previous posts say you will never get the same upgrade offers as new contract users do...

Either way I'd rather havd 3-4+ years of 50% line rental/free phones and having to go with a new contract at the end than spending an extra £100-200 a year extra for that period. Especially when all it takes is a 5-10 minute call every year!
