I'm currently posting on all the subforums trying to get an ideal of a build for a new machine.

I've decided to head for a i7 930 CPU, so what I need right now is a motherboard for it.

Does any1 have any recommendations? I don't know much about current motherboards, but I do plan to do some overclocking.

The gigabyte mobo is'nt bad at all, but here we go as vect said

At the price it is these days, it would be foolish to overlook it, generally is the same cost as the giga, sometimes cheaper, all depends on when and where u buy from.

Both will clock an I7 to 4ghz+ all depending on cooling ofcourse, if you get a case that can take this cooler http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-011-NC&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395 then you will comfortably have 4ghz+ depending on if u get a good cpu or not.

From his post in cpu section his budget for cpu is £200, so the 930 is closer to that, that being said if he can up it to £230ish the 950 would be better, but both will clock the same anyways, cooler will crap out before cpu/,mobo lol.

+1 for the Asus P6X58D-E. Its a great board, and at £145 it is a steal.

Here is a review.

The i7 950 is nice and all, but unless you are not planning to overclock or want to overclock with custom water cooling - the i7 930 will be just as fast. Under air cooling, heat will limit the overclock with either chip before the extra multi is needed. However, the i7 950 are likely to be better binned than the 930 - therefore they may overclock easier and cooler, but again the 930 is still very good at overclocking under high-end air.

Thanks for all the feedback.

But if I was to look at getting a i7 950 instead, what kind of board can you recommend?

Edit - Just reliased what I wrote, they use the same socket don't they? So the Asus board should still be fine?
