i have a dell studio pc which i have just about managed to butcher in a corsair 650w psu to power my recent upgrades.

the case is too small now and i am considering buying a new case BUT i hear dell mobos (although an atx) are shaped differently.

my question is will my stock dell mobo fit in

i will be buying a new mobo soon but i wanted to wait till after christmas and get an Oc i7 package.

If it's ATX then it's ATX, it can't be a custom version otherwise it wouldn't be an ATX mobo! I had a Dell a couple of years back and I did what you're thinking about (different case though) and everything fit no problem. I guess the only way to be sure though is to get the case and try, you can always return the case.

if it doesn't fit make it fit. The studio is most likely to be a micro ATX board, Dell won't go out of their way to stick in big boards. And the 1200 supports up to ATX, so you should be fine.

If not, get a 1/4 inch drill bit (maybe smaller) and drill out the holes on the Antec 1200 motherboard tray in alignment with the motherboard screw holes. Then get a Tap Drill with the same size as the drill bit and thread it. And there you have it, 1 step towards better modding.

Something else to check is the power switch and front panel connections, they may use non standard ones.

Considerably smaller. You would need a 6-32UNC tap and the appropriate tapping drill.

This is usually the biggest problem with Dell and case transplants.

I've done quite a few and a lot of the time the connectors are custom and sometimes problematic.
