Is Starcraft 2 really worth it's money?

Yeah thats what I mean, I like most level to last longer than 20-30mins maybe an hr or 2 unless you get a timer like in the C&C games.

I played all the C&C and Age of Empire games and they were brilliant to me, had a nice sized tech tree including upgrades.
Take Age of Empires for example, you could also do market trades to neutral/allies ingame which gave that game abit of reality.

Now ofcourse SC2 isn't based on anything thats happened in real life, but I'm just looking for a RTS that is recent/nearly brand new that offers some sort of gameplay like Age or Empires.

I know I talk a lot about Age of Empires and seem to like it but it's fairly old.
I'de like something recent.

Still tho, making I'm taking peoples opinions.
I wouldnt have this problem is I see it for £20 (Including w/e discount or pre-owned) lol I'de grab it without thinking.

I played Age of Empires 3 for like 2 years online nearly everyday. lol. Got all the expansions for it also. Loved both rush and treaty. What rank did you get up to? :)

Yes, it's worthwhile, without a doubt. I'm not into any other RTS games, but this is great.

But I do have to add:

When people say that it's retained the mechanics and gameplay to keep to the high standard set by the original game, it means: this is not actually a sequel to SC1, it's a remake (keep this quiet, though). Depending on your own viewpoint this is either a good or a bad thing.

I doubt this game will come down in price until after the two next parts are released.

If you like single player games, it's fantastic, if you're into multiplayer, not so much, in my opinion. The actual multiplayer modes and matching are brilliant, but if you're not on ecstasy and cocaine for speed, you're gonna get your arse kicked big time. Meaning I suck!

Ive been considering getting this game so instead of making my own thread i'll ask in here.

I dont like Single player and i dont really like the real game. By that i mean regular games.

Are there custom games? WC3 i played so much but never SP or regular matchs, Only ever custom games. So i wondered is SC2 going to have a lot of them? I loved the variety from tower defense to rpg to mazes etc. Does\will SC2 have the same depth of custom maps?

Its well worth the money for the custom maps alone, there's interesting games of all kinds already. Blizzard are doing much more to support custom maps as well, so I imagine there will be interesting new games to play for years to come.

There are already many many custom games to play and a lot of them are very enjoyable.

What Blizzard allow you to do with the Editor is amazing. You can actually create any type of game you want with it. Top Down Shooters and FPS games have been created (
).

Personally I think it's well worth the money. It's got a great Single Player campaign, lots of replay value and great Online to boot.

If you go online though, my advise is don't skip the non-ranked practice matches. You'll get violated by better players and it'll put you off. It's not a very steep learning curve, but there are a lot of different tactics and counters to remember. Once you've got them sorted you'll be fine.

It's the frigging national sport of korea or somthing. Come on man, you really need to ask this question? The game rules, you'll be playing for years well worth the money.

Thanks for the reply.

If i dont have the map and click to join a custom map room will it automatically download it?

Yes, it does automatically download the map.

All I seem to do is play custom games, I need to start playing the normal ones soon.

Multiplayer can be fun if playing against people that are not hot key twitching card counting loons. That time ever action down to fractions of seconds, they are not playing a game they are playing the latter. Pro gaming rubbish that Blizzard have been cultivating for sometime.

Singleplayer and multiplayer minus the pro gaming ******** is worth buying game for. Saying that I do feel short changed due to the other two races coming as separate games.

By this rationale, everyone must enjoy every baseball and basketball simulator because they're played extensively in the US :p

I could be wrong, but I assume that SC2 is the same as every other Blizzard hot-key-fest game that they've ever produced. It's a game of skill, but the skill is in how well you manage the keyboard, not how fast your brain evaluates a strategic situation.

I've never played a game of Starcraft online but i'm wondering if there is a way of playing against people the same level as you as we've seen in many other games over the years? I love the Single Player thus far after just 2 levels and multi has never been on my list of reasons to get a game unlike some for whom it is the first and sometimes only reason.

Being able to battle against those who are as inept as you (should you choose to) just scares people away less.

I have no beef getting beat but i get no enjoyment from being completey owned and i'm sure most great players dont get that much enjoyment from ending a game in 8 seconds because the enemy doesnt know his backside from his elbow.

I'd say it depends if you're competitive or not. The game takes massive amount of skill and knowledge of the game to be good at. You have to be willing to lose in order to learn if you want to be good at it. Of course you don't have to be good at it to enjoy it, you can play however you want but the general idea of the ladder is to test your game knowledge and try to win.

It's a game of skill, but the skill is in how well you manage the keyboard, not how fast your brain evaluates a strategic situation.

That just isn't true. You need good control of your keyboard and the ability to quickly evaluate what your opponent is doing. Most of the time evaluating this is extremely hard and you have to pay a hell of a lot of attention.

No hate please and sorry if this thread is inappropriate.

I played the trail and was a bit disappointed on the limited structures and units you can build =/
Also the amount of time spent on 1 game feels short to me, especially since there is always a rush within minutes of starting.

And really thats it covered lol, them 2 points above are just preventing me from buying.
What are the benifits for the future maybe?
Such as expansions that include more structures and units maybe?

Any other benifits to online play?
Personally I buy a game for it's online play because I know i'de play it again over a non-online game.

Any info and opinions would be helpful on me choosing to spend £30 (Roughly).

Again I appologise if this brings hate to SC2 fans.

Cheers

Don't really know what the trial lets you play around with. If you didn't like it, i'd suggest waiting. But as you said, if you want this mainly for online play then i'd get it straight up. Best online RTS in my opinion.
Its very well balanced, especially considering the length of time its been out.
Its extreamly fast paced and has a very steep learning curve, so if your not willing to put the time in to learning and adapting to your enemy then in my opinion, this isnt the game for you. Requires a lot of skill and understanding to play this well.

In the lower leagues you will encounter a lot of daft tactics and rushing, however, once you've learnt how to beat it and move up the leagues then you'll start playing people that can actually give you a run for your money. Nice and Challenging! but like i said, depends what your after! :)

don't worry mate, your not missing much (unless playing with friends), all your missing is being endlessly rushed, different players from all around the world using the EXACT same tactics every single match against you. :(

Perfect example of lower league players that find it unable to adapt to lower league tactics. If you can't deal with scouting a rush and adapting to defending and countering then your never going to get anywhere.

short answer = yes

This would be my short answer too ^^

Starcraft MP has a system in where you play 5 Placement matches which determin which league you get placed in "Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond"

From that, you will play people in the same league as you, and depending on your place in the league...
Top Half - Will play players from the same league as you and the league above to determin if your good enough to move up a league.
Bottom Half - Will play players from their own league, and players in the league below.

thats a brief summary of how its done at least. so you'll be playing players around your level all the time.

Blizzard have said that there is a 1:1 Win/Lose ratio. So your able to win games, and improve as well. Dont forget you learn more when you lose!
