I've managed to play through the first couple of levels of SC2 and can't wait to play some more but I wondered if there is any real reason why the original levels from the original games couldn't be brought over to the new engine.

As far as I can tell most of the units are still there so it would just be a question of redoing all of the maps and events and making a campaign mode for them wouldn't it?

I lov the originals but its been so long and playing through again in HD would be very nice.

Well, given the amazing things I've heard about the map editior, I'd assume its simply going to be a matter of time before someone does. I doubt Blizz would themselves, because people could be buying SC1 to play through for the plot before buying SC2, which means more money. As for a community project to remake them, it could potentially be stopped as I'd imagine there's something to protect Blizz's IP like that. But I doubt Blizz would try and stop it happening.

Blizzard done one of 2 things with fan made content even though they own it either way regardless. If its enjoyable they will promote it themselves as its basically free advertising for their games and franchises and if its really good, they also head hunt the people who made it to offer them jobs lol.

Blizzard only stop you making something if you try make money out of it, as its a breach of their copyrights.

as far as i have discovered, anything possible in the games engine is possible in the editor, there is no limit to what sort of maps you can make really as long as the engine can do it. an example, i made a custom battlecruiser that had missiles instead of lasers and a yamato cannon that fired a laser beam with a nuclear explosion as the result. its all pretty simple, only problem with making the original game in the new engine is the fact there is loads of missing units. though its possible to make a model/textures and import them into SCII and do it that way, though as far as im aware its only possible with 3D studio max at the moment. :) would personally love to, instead of remaking the campaign, make my own little side-story, complete with briefings and what not, would be awesome! :D
