I'm sick of foreign people

The usual "foreigners are ruining England' argument. I can't think of a time in history when a foreign culture has not appeared on the British Isles. The majority of the history of this island has involved some sort of culture shock and change.

I'm a proud Brit of Indian ethnicity. Most of us who are from foreign cultures who grew up here are proud Brits and one thing that a lot of people love is the multicultural aspect this country offers. Instead of being ashamed that there are 'foreigners' in the country, be proud that they view the UK as a place where they can get a good education, career prospects and freedom from prejudice.

Was it this one? -

Me father worked hard all his life down pits in [?]
He laboured every hour godsend from June to January.
He kept his pennies in a jar to buy his son some shoes
But when the b******s came out black he blew a bloody fuse.

Send the buggers back, oh send the buggers back;
these aren't the ones I wanted, son, I'm sending them straight back.
I said I wanted white ones, they've sent us bloody black,
I'm going to put the lid back on and send the buggers back.

The song in question is this one:

What song/track is that one you are refering to? :) (google came up with nothing)

The OP is clearly a troll.

This is further highlighted by the fact he hasn't bothered posting since the start of the thread.

I must apologize for allowing a few hours to elapse between stints on the computer. I had a few things to do, then went shopping at Brent Cross. The place was jam-packed with bloody foreigners! :(

I put this in Speakers Corner because I intended a debate on the nature of whether an Englishman in London can feel like he lives in England. My words were chosen to be a bit provocative, in the hope of eliciting some passionate arguments from those who would like to debate the topic with me.

Regrettably, I should have anticipated it would descend into a vitriolic petition to declare me a bigot, rather than produce any worthwhile opposing arguments.

The point I wish to get across is that in contrast to the way in which most European capitals contain a majority population native to the respective countries of said cities, London contains a minority of English people amongst its population. I feel like I live in a land other than England, not just because I continually encounter foreign people whilst out and about, but also because the streets of London are awash with shops of a foreign nature. These people and businesses combine to make me feel 'not at home'.

For example, when I lived in Stoke Newington aka Little Istanbul, a ten minute walk would enable me to reach only one proper chip shop, yet over a dozen kebab shops.

You're living in the wrong places, overall ~85% of the population are White British.

If it really bothers you that much, get a different job in a different place.

Whenever I read about comments like these, especially during the summer where this country celebrates the anniversary of the Battle of Britain, I cant help think that the most important time in this country's history was saved (or at least helped to save) with the assistance of the same foreigners (and perhaps their descendents) the OP mentions.

Secondly, as someone else has pointed out this country has been shaped by foreign influx from the Romans, Normans, Vikings etc. and will continue to do so.

Thirdly I think it would be fair to say that London is one of the most cosmopolitan capitals in the world, perhaps a fair reflection of its influence, history and economic success (even during a time of recession). Some of the other major cities I have been to in the world (Madrid, Malaga, Milan, Sydney for example) also have a similar global cross-section.

To view the world as if its through a nostalgia-tinged replay of cine film from the 1960s is unhelpful, unrealistic and probably far removed from the reality.
:)

I'm not white but I'm born in england, and so were my parents, does this make me a 'foreigner' invading your country?

I wouldnt be surprised if the OP voted for the BNP

This isnt true, the only European capitals really which are as you say, are the eastern block ones, and the only reason for that is because Hitler wiped out all the Jews there, theres plenty of Africans in Paris, Turks in Amsterdam, all sorts in Bonn and Berlin, lots of Slovaks, Poles etc in Rome, its no different anywhere

Statistics would say otherwise (at least from 2007 and I don't imagine it's changed drastically since then):

Maybe it was just the area you lived in, or your perception...who knows...

Let's take a hypothetical situation, that 'White British' people were a minority in London. So what? Honestly. So what?

The following is intended tongue in cheek, before I get flamed
For many years countries such as India were annoyed that there were so many British in their country, so they're returning the favour, except they're not invading and attacking the locals :p

If the british hadn't been to India do really think India would be the country it is now ? Say what you like about the british empire but we gave back to those countries we colonized.

railways, sewers etc and a legal and banking systems pretty much bringing them into line with the current british tech at the time.
