Hi, I've recently bought a GTX 460 by MSI the cyclone edition with pre-overclocked 1GB of RAM.

I'm just wondering what i could change the settings to in order to get the best performance out of it. Right now it's currently at overclocked settings from MSI, however i would like to go over it without having any problems with the graphics card. If you guys could help me with the settings that'll be great!

From what I've seen from reviews and the GTX460 owners' feedbacks, almost all GTX460 can overclock to at least 800MHz at stock voltage no problem. Use MSI Afterburner and increase the core clock to to 800MHz (by default the shader clock should be linked with the core, so it will increase along with the core clock increase. Also, the memory clock it should do 1000MHz (4000MHz) no problem.

After that and find no problem, you can then probably have a play around yourself and increase things a bit at a time, to see how far your card will go (as every card is different). Artefacts will appear on screen when the core clock overclocked a bit too far, and tearing will appear if memory clock overclock too far; and if it is overclock much to far, it would even blue screen (not gonna damage your card, just meaning you card could use a little more voltage). Some people managed around 850MHz core clock and 1100MHz memory clock (4400MHz). After finding the best stable spot for your card at stock voltage, then you might want to try increase the voltage by little bit (don't use too high voltage) and should be able to push the core clock further. It might hit 900MHz or even a bit more.

Someone who actually own the card can probably be better advise you on the max voltage you should use.

I'm going to set mine to 800 core and memory 4000Mhz. The only thing that bothered me slightly was one review where the memory wouldn't go further than 3900Mhz when overclocked. Seemed a bit weird considering they're meant to be rated to 4000Mhz.

I like to overclock without increasing voltages past stock. My days of tweaking everything have long since passed, but then I cannot shake the need to get a little free boost on stuff :)

Out of interest once I'm happy with my overclock, is there a BIOS app out there yet that allows me to save those speeds into the BIOS? Saves messing about with windows utilities to overclock. I've done that with all my previous cards.
 
Even the memory overclock is based on getting lucky with good chips.

If you have just one chip that wont manage 4000 Mhz, then you cant overclock them that high.

My MSI cards max out at 890 / 4250. Any higher starts artifacting, but those clocks are completely stable.
 
I forgot if i do overclock will i void my warranty? i know it's abit of a dump question but i'm new to all this overclocking. :)
 
Wow, really? so if the card breaks down whilst i'm overclocking the gtx 460. Then they will give me a replacement?
 
Why? Don't flood the Forums, you'll get your advice here. Or even better, use search or manually go through the last few pages - you'll find any answer you need.
