Im after a decent cordless drill?

I have been looking at either...

Makita BHP452RFX 18V Li-ion Combi Drill

or

Dewalt DEWDC729KA Cordless Drill Driver 18 Volt

Both have good reviews and a decent amount of torque..

Primary use is for general DIY, a lot of it as well as there is so much to do around the house

Anyone know either of these or have any other recommendations - only make I won't look at is Bosch as I have had bad experiences with them.

Willing to go upto £200 - no more than that..

Well my mate would tell me/you to get the Dewalt since he obsessed with them and swears by anything they make. :) Hope that helps.

I also own a variety of Makita tools, I strongly recommend them too. Used them ever since I started college and work training years ago and I swear by them.

coming from the trade the de-walts have a better gearbox than the makita's, at work a makita would last maybe 3-6 months and the dewalts were lasting about 12 months then the Hilti's were lasting 3-4 years but are much more exspensive..

Personally i would recommend this http://www.screwfix.com/prods/74113...t-XRP-DC988L1-18V-Li-Ion-Cordless-Combi-Drill

it's also half price at the minute but shop around as you might find it cheaper still but i doubt it (just had a quick look myself) Don't knock screwfix they get some really good deals on the power tools, BTW it's a much better combi than the dewalt you were looking at in your first post.

Can recommend the Hitachi range of cordless drills. Know a lot of people in the fabrication trade that use them. Good battery life and warranty.

I can post more detailed info tomorrow if req, got a brochure at work.

My mate swears by his Makita drill, he's used loads of different brands in the line of his work but the one he has now only cost about £60 and he rates it better than some of the £200 models

will check it out - cheers

edit - does look a lot better - surprised at your comments over the Makita's, my old man used to swear by them, and would never buy anything else.
To be fair, back then I dont think DeWalt had made over to the UK, as I dont ever remember seeing one when he took me on site as a kid..

Will trust your experience as I really don't know about this and probably try and order it tomorrow - thanks for the recommendation

I'd listen to bigjimmy, you can't beat experience.
I use Kress & Bosch.

Thx

i would def recommend a li-ion they are lightweight compared the their ni-mh equivalents and are a god send if working in confined spaces or on ladders, always look for all metal gear boxes all dewalt XRP's have these, Also consider the price of replacement batteries but for DIY use a Li-Ion only takes 30-60 minutes to charge and holds it's charge for ages,

Also buy some good pozi bit's such as WERA diamonds http://www.screwfix.com/prods/21717...ed-Bits/Wera-Bi-Torsion-Pozi-Diamond-set-10Pc i've had mine for 6 years and still using my original POZI bit.

Need any further help just ask

i was going to go deWalt but heard plenty of people say that they were not as good as you think. Everyone however seems to say Bosch Blue tools are fantastic and thats what I went for. One 12v drill/driver cordless and one SDS+ corded. Both excellent and both worth the money.

Dewalts are much better than they were 4-5 years ago.

They're both equally good brand, though I've known more Makita cordless drills brake.

I would go with DeWalt.
