FAO car modders

nice cars, renoranes
i do miss the saturdays me and my friends would spend doing what mods we could to our cars ourselves (with massive hangovers from the night before) good memories and an era really for my car modding time

RenoRanes007 I think you've just made me understand the modding bug, now that's the sort of cars, minus the Beetle :) that I'd willingly spend money on :)

No I don't regret it - although sometimes looking back the money could have been spent better.

I try to replace components that fail (wear and tear) with uprated items, that way it's not like I'm modding just for the sake of it.

If you research and pick the right parts, you can improve the look/performance/driveability/sound etc of the original car without compromising too much.

As people have said, you are unlikely to get the money back, but thats not the point, cars are a depreciating asset*

*unless they have been owned by Mr Beckham it would seem.

ps I love the quattro!

Most of us who spend thousands on mods will always regret it when......

1) When we come to sell the car (as you'll never get your money back plus it also puts off some buyers)

2) ....if we smash the car up or it gets nicked (as again you'll lose all the money you've spent on mods)

....But I can't help it... I just wanted more power..... lol

I've never, ever purchased any mods for any of my cars, even the tax holders are the freebies that either came with the car or free with insurance renewal. Never seen the point personally, for me the only exception would be the stereo but again I've always been happy with the standard fit.

That. For me if the car isn't nice out the box, I couldn't be bothered. That being said, I do quite fancy some black alloys for the new car in the start of sept, but I'll probably take one look at the price and bin the idea.

Nope, no regrets at all. I still enjoy the car so it stops me thinking about buying a new car.

Sometimes, the biggest annoyance is knowing that I've wasted money on stupid things, like I've lost count the number of sun strips I've bought and ripped off a month later, etc.

Apart from stuff like that I think I've spent my money wisely on suspension, brakes, engine mods.. Best so far has to of been the supercharger for the ST, such a performance increase!

I've only really modded two cars. A 1989 Mk2 Astra and 1994 Mk3 Astra. The Mk2 was originally a 1.8i which was OK but I had an old GTE 2.0i engine and running gear in the garage so I switched them over. Result was cheap nippy car which looked like a very boring Mk2 Astra. The Mk3 was already modded with a 2.0 Tubro engine so I just tweaked that resulting in over 300BHP which was fun in a straight line and interesting in the corners.

Total cost of the Mk2 was around 1K and the Mk2 was around 3.5k. Don't regret either , in fact the Mk2 sold in bits for over 2K and I sold the Mk3 for a big profit too.

Hmm hard one to call in all honesty, all the cars I’ve modified have turned out better as a result however you can't but help thinking about the cash spent, for me modifying a car isn't simply about the outcome its also about the joy of doing the spannering, learning and messing around with the car.

I wont do extensive mods to a car that I don't intend to keep for a decent amount of time

I had some plans for my MR2, but now I'm not sure I want to actually keep it as I don't like it as much as I thought I did. It's too twitchy at high speed for my liking

How much power do they put out after supercharging? Also, how common a job is it?

I had a play with one the other day I can only imagine had had something done as it wasn't easy to shake even as the numbers got higher, where as the stock fiesta sts ive played with in the past have been fairly poor

7500 on the car
1500 on modding.... stupid stupid stupid

But i still go on..... sigh

It's my hobby.

I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't watch Sky TV.

I mod, and enjoy, my cars.

Therefore, money spent on those I don't regret, as I have had enjoyment out of either doing it, or making use of the result of the mods.

thatll be a little monster then. not tempted to sell up and maybe aim for a 2.5 focus ST?

lol whats the point in selling up if u just spent on all that?! ah but i see he is already selling the bits off...

the labour plus depreciation:/ you might as well not bother!

Never really had the spare cash to go spending anything huge on any of my cars. Only ever changed tiny things, when I do have the money however I may own a car worth modding properly :p
