Hi all,

I have a MBP that I would like to output to a TV. I travel a lot so taking my PS3 and a router to use PS3 'media server' is a little impractical!

What else could i use? I've seen the mini port to DVI however what if the tv has VGA or HDMI?

If it matters I have the new 2010 13" MBP

If I get it to output via HDMI (even if its mini dvi>dvi then dvi>hdmi) will it make the sound come out the TV yes? It may be outputting 720/1080p.

You can get third party mini-DP to HDMI adaptors online. I've got one that cost about £12 and works great with my 2010 13" MBP. Outputs both video and audio.

Quick one for you: I am going to borrow a friends mini-dp-DVI then DVI-HDMI cable.

Will this still be able to display HD (720p) films on a TV? I only ask because the resolution of my MBP is only 1280 x 800

Another question added to the above. I have found the mini-dp to HDMI cable.

It says in the description:
Apple Mini-DisplayPort video outputs are now enabled for AUDIO on the latest 2010 Macbooks (i5 / i7)]/quote

I have the 13" MBP 2010 so its not an i5/i7...will it still output audio via HDMI? And will the video be in HD even though my screen only goes to 1280 x 800?

Yes, you'll get audio. It should also output at the native resolution of your TV/monitor. Mine certainly outputs at 1080P on my 22" 16:9 desktop monitor.

Thanks - but all that does is leave the screen on when the lid is closed.

I want a program that just turns off the screen on the mbp but leaves external tv/monitor on.
