Did anyone else do this on Sunday? I completed the 58.5 mile course in 4 hours 15 mins. I could have possibly have done it 30 mins faster, except the route went past my Mum's house, so I popped in for a cup of tea and a bowl of Sugar Puffs!

It was a fantastic day, raising valuable money for a children's cancer charity and was attended by over 2000 like minded individuals. It was great fun for me especially, because 12 members of my family also joined in! I beat them all though :)

A great day out!

I couldn't sort transport up to Seahouses this year so I skipped it. Did the Northern Rock Cyclone Challenge a few months back but fancied doing the Great North Ride.

Last year I passed the ride going the other way as we were cycling to Edinburgh from Newcastle over 3 days. :)

I'll have a look at the Northern Rock ride you mentioned - how was it?

I thought we were going to get soaked on Sunday, but thankfully I managed to miss the rain - although some of my family weren't so lucky! That'll teach them not to be slow!

The only thing that disheartened me was that for much of the race I was in my top gear, pedalling as hard as I could, but people were still coming past me like I was stood still! I know a mountain bike isn't the best choice for a road race, but it has road tyres on it and is the only bike I had. I'd love a road bike though - I'd love to have a go on one, a decent £1000 model, and see how the riding experience differs.

I think I will have to do this next year! Only had the bike a few months, so lots more training to do.

I think you can do a Manchester to Blackpool one to!

I'd love to do something like this. Are there any well known big bike rides in the South of England?

London to Brighton is very popular and usually over-subscribed.

I've done Liverpool > Chester > Liverpool before. That was a good ride and I fancy Manchester > Blackpool.
