i have a budget around a grand for an ideal TV, is this asking too much?

a TV with wifi (though ethernet is substitutable) Freeview HD, MKV support, 50-60" range and LED.

but the main feature is that SD sky TV must look very decent.

if not, i assume i will need to compromise on LED first, or the MKV/internet support. which one if needs be?

am i asking too much, and if so, what budget would fit what i want?

50" and above LCD/LED will be way over budget.

Plasma is only real option tbh, LG 50PK790 and Samsung PS50C580 (Both are 50") seem to cover most of your requirements for £800-900.

From a quick look online atm, not many others do for that price.

Going lower on size would open up more options though.

LED is out the question it is around 2500 for a 60 inch LED television. I have an LED and the freeview channels look rubbish, (not HD). When linked up to the computer the picture isnt calibrated properly. I know I havent spent time setting the tv up and calibrating etc but tbh the picture isnt great on it. Even when playing 1080p movies off the computer.

well yes, but how do they compare to CRT?

hows the 60PK550? does it have KMV support?

If you connect your PS3 up to a network, you can stream movies off a PC to it to play on the TV. All video formats work fine as the PC itself does the transcoding. I do this, the PS3 is a nice little media centre.

what would dropping to 46 add?

A Londoner that says leccy? I'm so used to hearing it "lehkkkkkeeeeee".

picking up slang from the north :p plus i was born in west yorkshire and lived there for years, i mix and match freely :p

so the LG 790 is the one to go with?

heard burn in is a big problem with them, is this true? hwo would one mount it to a wall at a slight angle?

sorry for more questions, but are there sammys that are under 60" net connected (DLNA) or being able to play mkvs via usb/ external hdd. that are under a grand? (plasma preferably)

right so whats the verdict, LG or samsung, i am completely torn.

whats the easiest to mount, and infact how does one go around mounting? get a pro and pay tehm? buy the TV from currys, or just man up and DIY?

I wouldnt have either to be honest. Not a fan of LG or samsung plasmas.

The old pioneer sets were the best, with the panasonic ones a close second. If i was getting a plasma, it would have to be a panasonic.

And they are all just as easy to mount as each other. Theres an industry standard called VESA which means all tvs have set holes in the back you screw a wall mount into. The deciding factor in how easy it is to DIY is down to your choice of wallmount, rather than your TV.

But the biggest constrait with your requirements is the size - wanting a 50 to 60 inch TV for £1000 means you're going to have to compromise on picture quality(due to the brand) or features.

Most of the high end panasonics are completely out of budget at your size. And none of the sets larger than 50 " are going to be in budget.

You need to have a long hard think about whats most important to you. Size of picture quality / brand.

For me its PQ, and that comes with the brand. Panasonic do have their own retail store where you can demo the sets properly with dedicated bluray players etc.. so that might be worth a visit for you.

Theres quite a few around london
