Fiesta ST > Grownup adult car, but which?

Civic seems to fit the bill, although I wouldn't say it's professional looking as such.

Accord or a Volvo of sorts would also do if it wasn't for size.

I could get a bigger car, It's just after the multistory isident I'm a little warry, it was 7 years ago though :P

The car needs to be economical, which I don't think Mondeo's/Volvo's/Accord's are, or are they?

I would rather get a better spec Focus than a poverty spec "badge" car.

Sorry I missed that part of your post.

Another vote for the Civic. It does not matter how much Honda parts cost as you will probably never need any :D.

This Czech girl I know had had this little Honda for around 5 years. Never serviced it lol

I never bought stripes with mine.

It's still a childish car and I want to sell it.

Yea, because a Focus 1.6 is such a professionals car, right?

I agree the Focus is probably the best choice for you but the wording you've used in this thread is hilarious.

Please do not post in any of my threads, you are a real moron.

I don't have £20k for a Jag or a BMW... I have up to £7k and for my money, the Focus is the most professional I can get.

Why do you always have an attitude? Yes, you own a BMW, you are superior.. we get it.

How many miles a year do you do for economy to be so important?

The only reason i suggested a Mondeo over a Focus is you get a much nicer car for the money, forget a scrape you had 7 years ago, thats not a reason to not buy a car.

That was nice. Thank you.

You obviously don't get it, because my point is that there is nothing 'childish' about a Fiesta ST. It's a top of the range example of a decent small hatch. It's not overly chav, it hasnt got a huge exhuast - it's just a decent hatch.

The Focus 1.6 is not really any better, certainly not in a 'professional' sense.

Well then I apologies. You really need to put more thought into how you post.

I had comments from co-workers about my car all the time about it being boy racerish and over powered.

I work/ed in the environment sector so it maybe wasn't the most appropriate choice when I bought it but I had my fun with it, now want to sell it for something more adult and a little bigger and better on the fuel.

I do around 15k a year, so not massive amounts. Need better fuel economy over my ST.

You will get comments from co-workers about whatever you drive - because most co-workers know nothing about cars and have ridiculous opinions on them. You would be very foolish to base a decision to change a car on what they say. This should be pretty obvious by the fact they think a car with 150bhp is overpowered.

I think you are being very harsh on your current car - it really is rather good for what it is and I can't really see the case for chopping in for something like a Focus.

If you don't want a bigger car, please do not let someone convince you to get one for the sake of having one.

The Mondeo isn't a whole lot more spacious than the MK2 Focus when you're inside. MK3 Mondeos are now starting to populate council estates - if image is a concern, the focus has the edge here.

Equipment wise, the only thing you really have to look forward to over a reasonably specced Focus is leather seats.

How does a Focus have an image edge over anything? Its a Focus.

hhmm maybe. I got it brand new for £10k as My Father worked in the Ford Group at the time, it's done 58k, it's 05 plate. I have looked after it and it's been serviced well.

My mate parsed aother comment about it last weekend, he works for min wage in London and can't even afford a car let alone holidays....

may be your right, I wouldn't mind a new car though.

Based on what the op says, I'm thinking a 3 box saloon car of 3 series size + is what is called for. But then he doesn't seem to want this.

I would recommend the Mondeo too, sorry but it does fit what you are asking for the best I would say. Of course there are alternatives, like the Mazda 6, Honda Accord etc. It's a lot of car for the money, looks decent and "grown up" it's comfortable, cheap to run etc.

A MK3 Mondeo is beginning to take the place of the MK2 Mondeo. A MK2 Focus has a huge edge over this council estate litter.

Stick a diesel badge on the back and keep the eco warriors happy :)

Dear god that is ******, seriously mate, take a breath and think about what you are saying.

Council estates are full of dripped up new cars, in fact people on council estates have more disposable than mortgage payers.

How on earth can you put a car down because people on council estates sometimes buy them.

This may sound massively pompous (but I can be so will go with it eh) ...but, I don't think any small or compact hatch has an image advantage over a 'proper' sized car. Not when you are trying to project a more "grown up" and "professional" image at least, which is what the op said he wants.

As long as the car is in good condition, clean and well kept that is. Obviously a smart looking Focus is going to look better than a knackered old Mondeo with duct tape on the bumpers, or even an old cruddy 7 series with rust and bits hanging off. In-fact more than anything it's about how well kept the car is, not the age or even what kind of car it is.

As I said, this may sound hugely pompous but there ya go, I'm in one of 'those' moods right now anyway. I think I've used the word riff-raff at least four times so far today. I blame Basil Fawlty for that though.
