EK 480 Waterblock

I just got one of these waterblocks the box was fully sealed but I seem to be missing the 1.5mm thermal pad too... what's that all about? there is 2 long pads and 3 shorter ones and that's it, no sign of a small square one as per the instructions.

Have OCUK not also noticed this with their pre-fitted cards? is there something I'm missing?

Unlike me, you weren't an idiot, and didn't fit the block and only realise you were missing the pads halfway through :p

I was hoping to make a start tomorrow but it doesn't look possible now. :(

Did OCUK send you a 1.5mm pad out? surely they've ran into this problem with their pre-fitted cards it can't just be you and me can it?

I haven't received anything as of yet, but I've faced the fact that I won't be able to progress with this build until the end of the month.

If worst comes to worst, I'll just have to buy some thermal pads for a couple of £, then remove the block and clean the TIM etc with alcohol pads and just reinstall the block :)

Have you watercooled before?

Yes mate I fitted an EK block to a 5870 and it went very smoothly, I'm finding fitting a 1.5mm thermal pad that wasn't actually included in the box to be a bit of an obstacle though. :p

Did any other people who bought this block get a 1.5mm pad?

I'm curious to know how OCUK do it with their pre-fitted cards? do they use their own 1.5mm pads or is 1mm pad sufficient?

I've been on to EK they're going to send one out, lets see how long it takes...

I've already dismantled the GTX480 so it looks like I'm back on the 5870 'til it arrives.

Right been in contact with EK over this. They are sending us a shipment, so by shipment I hope a lot, of 1.5mm pads as you two are not the only ones. Rjk has done some mounting testing and the 1mm pads do make contact and cool the card sufficiently, however we have only tried the Asus card.

Trust me your emails here if you require 1.5mm pads.

Sorry to hear of the problems you guys are having.

I was planning on buying 2 of the EK blocks for my 480's, but I think I will hold off for now, seems as though EK are having problems.

Don't want to risk my new toys. ;)

Don't hold off, if you really want to get the block then you can buy some 1.5mm thermal pads for a couple of quid :)

That's good to hear, can you make a post here when your shipment arrives please because if mine hasn't arrived by then I'll snap one up.

It looks like these thermal pads won't be here for a while.

I'm wondering: is it okay to leave my waterblock on the card for the next 3 weeks and then just reinstall it when the pads arrive? This is because I'd have to not only remove the block, but remove the pads, and remove TIM from the gpu and waterblock as well.

It would be fine to leave it fitted for the next 3wks but I'm not sure if the thermal pads you've already fitted will be re-usable, you're probably best off picking up some more 1mm pads in addition to the 1.5mm and starting afresh in 3wks time.

I've just been informed that there is a package from Slovenia waiting for me. :D

I only emailed EK last Thursday so they don't mess about.

You waited all this time for thermal pads????

I would have just bought some for £3 from a uk based retailer and received it with in 48 hours. ;)

If you have got 1mm pads and have a bit left over just double it up or use a bit of thermal paste to bridge the gap, NOT ARTIC SILVER though.

I have some pads left over from both of my 480 water blocks.
